Book Description

On the morning of August 11, 2009, Chris Dikes went for a morning bike ride as he did most days. Forty minutes later, the driver of a pickup truck struck Chris from behind. The accident sent him to the emergency room via an ambulance. Despite people telling him he was "lucky" to be alive, he found himself locked in a mental and emotional battle with fear. Tormented by nightmares, Chris feared that he'd never be able get on a bike again and that his life would be forever marked by the events of August the 11th.

The Accident is an emotional, honest, and sometimes humorous look at one person's battle to reclaim his life and overcome the fears that followed a traumatic event.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not a biker, but I liked this book! January 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This not a book just about a bike accident. Chris Dikes skillfully weaves the events of the accident together with how it affected him, his family, and his friends. Even though I am not a biker or interested in biking, I found this book to be interesting and humorous. A good read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable lesson. December 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After being hit with a truck while cycling Chris recounts his life and how it changed. There are valuable lessons here like his decision to get a lawyer and how important that ended up being. The most valuable lesson is at the end but you'll have to read the book for that one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick, enjoyable read April 24, 2012

I have heard this author speak a number of times, so I was interested to read his book when it came out. I don't normally read books about biking, but I found this one to be well written and I really connected to what the author was going through in the book. I loved how he intertwined the story of how his faith played out in the story without coming across as preaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! What an experience! January 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
What an experience. Fortunately, I've never had to go through a physical trauma, but this book described it in a way that made me feel the pain, fear, and stress that this author experienced. It is incredible how one incident can have so many repercussions. You will laugh and cringe and enjoy this book! I am not a cyclist because of the fear of sharing the roads with other larger moving objects but to those that are, I now have a greater respect for you, your space, and your bravery!
