5.0 out of 5 stars Land! March 5, 2010

Land! I'm sorry for the preceeding reviewer's experience. I, too, bought both volume 1 and 2 of the Louise Brooks series, and gave volume 1 a glowing review on Amazon. I'd give this one a five star rating, too.

The discs and the boxes arrived at my home in perfect condition. I experienced no technical problems whatsover playing them. I admit the quality of the prints isn't of the highest quality, but it's still quite acceptable, especially for films as rare as these. I don't know who's to blame for the damaged goods the preceeding reviewer received. Whatever happened, I'm sure Amazon will either send replacements or refund the purchase price. Everything I've ever ordered from them has been packed so well it would take being run over by a truck to bust them up. I can't imagine they'd deliberately ship already damaged goods, either.

At any rate, you gotta love a Louise Brooks double feature with one film directed by John Ford and the other starring William Powell in his film debut!

The preceeding reviewer should post another message once the situation's been resolved, and let us know if things turned out satisfactorily.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed fan August 21, 2011

I looked forward to seeing this dvd, unfortunately, the film was flawed with a large white spot in front of the actor's faces throughout the first half of "The Canary Murder Case". The second film was of very good quality and most enjoyable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Quality! February 17, 2010
Verified Purchase
First off, when I recieved the movies, Louise Brooks Vol 1 and 2, they are DVD-R's and both boxes were broken (the part that holds the disc). The quality of the picture is horrible, I have seen better copies elsewhere. The disc I recieved was defective (skipping and freezing), which I had to wait one month even to get, is not replaceable due to it being not in stock. I would avoid buying these movies, in my own opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars So glad to see these! April 27, 2013
By S.K.
I have both volumes 2 and 3 and have just orderd 1 and 4. All I can say is that I am very pleased just to get an opportunity to see these films. Having read about them and seen photograhs of scenes, to actually view Girl In Every Port, Canary Murder Case and my favourite, Beggars of Life is a real thrill. A better print of Beggars of Life and The Canary Murder Case would have been a boon, but these prints are o.k. and you still get to see the picture in it's entirety. It's a pity that Criterion and Kino have not chosen to at least reproduce Beggars of Life, and have only focused on Ms Brooks' European triumphs i.e. Pandora's Box and Diary of A Lost Girl. I say Thank You to Classic Video Streams for making available films that larger film/dvd distributors have not done. Louise was unappreciated during her career and I think she deserves her films (those that can still be found) to be preserved and archived. Surely that's not asking too much. I received volumes 2 and 3 as a gift, and consider myself extremely lucky to have these in my Louise Brooks' collection. I do love silent films in general. There's an innocence and charm to them that films today do not have. RECOMMENDED!!!
