Book Description

The Adventures of Loafy Lion & Friends - A Short Story (2000 words)

I would like to introduce you to 'Loafy,' the friendliest lion in the whole of Africa. All his animal friends love Loafy, and I hope that you will too.

A long time ago…well more like last week actually; there lived a pride of lions in Africa. A land far, far away, unless of course you actually live in Africa, in which case it is really quite close. Africa, if you look at one of those revolving globes, is that large continent that looks like an upside down ripe pear about to fall to the ground. It is hot…really hot, by day, chilly at night and has miles upon miles of wide open spaces full of wild animals. The wildest of these animals was a particular pride of lions that lived in the south east of Africa in the Kruger National Park in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains....Loafy is waiting to tell you more inside!

5.0 out of 5 stars Children love Loafy (and so do I) March 7, 2012

Just read this to my nieces (who are insatiable when it comes to new stories) and they enjoyed it SO much. It's the perfect length too. I hope Loafy has some more adventures for me to share with them - I'm fast becoming their favourite story teller!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Exciting Story of one Lion's Bravery March 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Even as an adult I love reading children's books. They are a magical escape! I was especially interested in this book since I once used to live in Africa and have been very close to a pride of lions. This story is about a lion living in the Kruger National Park. In this park he lives in luxury and is a little lazy. That is until one day he must be very brave and fights a crocodile to save his wildebeest friend. Throughout the story the author weaves in some facts about lions which makes the story even more entertaining. This is an adventure story kids will love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice one Loafy March 8, 2012
By Aldave
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed meeting Loafy and his friends, this short story has great variety and is perfect for reading to the grandchildren. I liked the relationships that were formed as you read the book and the drama that unfolded. It shows excitement, sadness, and a whole lot of other emotions to captivate you as you read. I liked the mix of the old with the new in the story and am sure that the next one in the series that the author indicates will be every bit as good, if not better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable! January 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Loafy Lion is so named because of his supposed idleness, and the fact that "He never went out to hunt... ever!" This eventually prompts the pride to lose respect for him and ask him to leave. This he does with heavy heart and wanders off into the distance. Then Loafy sees a friend in trouble. In fact, he is not lazy at all, just a bit deaf with perfect eyesight - all a bit topsy-turvy for a lion. As it also happens, Loafy is not into eating other animals, most of them are his friends. And when friends are in trouble - you just have to get up and do something about it.

This is the best short story I have read for a long time. The characters are comical and it would have been great to see some images of them. The story itself is well-written and very funny, though a little too short for a book. More than one adventure in the same book would have done more for me. Nevertheless, Loafy Lion is really enjoyable, and teaches children a bit about animals on the Continent (not country as the author would have us believe) of Africa. There are also a couple of lessons in there too. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of illustrations, which I thought would work very well here. But, all in all, this is a great read and well deserving of 4 good stars. It would be suited to 5 years and upwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loafy is the King of Lions! March 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
VERY enjoyable short story! Its the perfect length to read to your little ones during the day or as a bedtime story. I borrowed it with my Prime membership to read to my niece and nephew and just purchased it. They loved this story and so did I. Loafy is a lovable lazy lion who must prove that he is worthy of his friends and his pride(lion family). The author's witty and fun personality truly shine in his writing. I am looking forward to the next Loafy adventure!
