Book Description

Wild, brave Tempest wants summer to last forever. Her calm, timid sister, Serena, can't wait for the start of the new school year. On the first day, Tempest decides to skip fourth grade, seek adventure by using magic to sprout wings, and fly away to exotic places. As she waves good-bye, Serena promises to save her sister's seat on the bus. Will Tempest make it home? Can Serena keep her promise? As each sister battles bullies, disasters, and loneliness, they discover they're more alike than they know. The Adventures of Tempest & Serena is that rare mix: a suspenseful yet charming chapter book for ages 7 and up.

5.0 out of 5 stars One for the bookshelf July 26, 2012
Format:Paperback
I love finding books that have just the right combination of action, reality, humor, and imagination. I read Tempest and Serena to my granddaughters - one who happens to be Miss Adventurous and one who happens to approach life with a bit more caution. This book kept them both enthralled. We read the story outside on a cool summer's evening, snuggling on chaise lounges and reading by flashlight. Wonderful memory makers, books like this. Now I have to order my own copy since I promised this one as a gift to the girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE it--Adventure at its best! August 23, 2012
By aHarp
Format:Paperback
Whimsical, but so endearing that it's believable--reminiscent of "My Father's Dragon." I'm a mother to two girls under six and, while picture books are great, we are always looking for a chapter book to fill our bedtime reading needs. While it's a book probably written with older kids in mind, it fits the bill perfectly for us--exciting with manageable chapter lengths and cute illustrations.

While the story is fun and easy for an attention-span-challenged kid to follow, it quietly presents ethical challenges, choices and solutions. The importance of family and sisterhood. The value of experiencing different cultures. The joys and downfalls of hopping the fence to eat the greener grass. Facing and conquering our greatest fears.

Fabulous work, and it's good for boys and girls. I'll be buying this one for the nieces and nephews. Can't wait to see more!
