Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

The real estate, stock, and private debt bubbles have already burst, and there is more trouble on the horizon. That's the hard truth that David Wiedemer, Robert Wiedemer, and Cindy Spitzer—the authors who accurately predicted the financial crisis of 2008—revealed in their books America's Bubble Economy in 2006, Aftershock in 2009, and the bestseller Aftershock, Second Edition in 2011.

In The Aftershock Investor, they offered information and investing advice on what the future holds and what you need to do to survive—and even thrive—in today's continuing economic storm. This newly revised Second Edition of The Aftershock Investor offers a more detailed, more proactive investing philosophy that shows you how to actively manage your investment portfolio based on a macroeconomic view of the current and future economy. It's filled with practical knowledge you need to keep your money safe. From what to do with your home to what to do with your cash, this invaluable book is packed with smart investment insights that you can put into practice right away.

Taking an in-depth look at the current and future global economic climate, the book covers such key issues as what's next for stocks, bonds, currencies, commodities, and other assets, and why continuing actions by the U.S. Federal Reserve will eventually damage the dollar, the economy, and much more.

Packed with detailed investment advice on real estate, retirement, annuities, life insurance, and buying gold and silver before, during, and after the economic crisis, The Aftershock Investor, Second Edition is full of prescient insights about what you can do to protect—and grow—your money as the next round of global asset bubbles burst.

Those who heeded the authors' earlier warnings were able to successfully ride out the financial crisis of 2008 and even cash in during the years that followed. Now, this new edition of The Aftershock Investor gives you a second chance for protection and profit from what is yet to come.

From the Back Cover

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO STAY AFLOAT IN A SINKING ECONOMY?

The old ways of investing are over. Completely over. Not only are we facing a falling multibubble economy due to decades of declining U.S. productivity growth, we now have a falling world bubble economy, too. The conventional wisdom investing that worked so well in the past is becoming increasingly ineffective. Worse, clinging to the old ways will send your hard-earn assets to "money heaven" faster than in the global financial crisis of 2008—only this time we won't have a quick rebound.

From the authors who accurately predicted the domino fall of the conjoined real estate, stock, and private debt bubbles that led to the financial crisis of 2008, comes the definitive guide to protection and profit in 2014 and beyond in the next global money meltdown.

Based on the proven predictions of the New York Times bestseller Aftershock, every chapter of this fully revised second edition of The Aftershock Investor has been extensively updated with even more actionable insights and detailed advice about what smart investors need to know right now, before the worldwide Aftershock hits. Here you can:

  • Discover why this "recovery" is 100 percent fake
  • Protect your investment portfolio and other assets in the coming multibubble pop
  • Make wise real estate decisions that fit your particular situation
  • Limit your exposure to the coming market cliff, especially in retirement
  • Learn how to buy gold, even with limited finances
  • Take full advantage of new investment opportunities in the aftershock ahead

Now is the time to discover this entirely new approach to investing—before it's too late.

The Aftershock books are a good read. For those who are concerned about the nation's debt and quantitative easing, and overall economy, these books provide a logical and compelling explanation as to why this is a concern and what this could possibly mean to the country. However, credibility is lost when it comes to the recommendations for how to invest in the forecasted economy.

The authors lay out an investment strategy for the period of time prior to the Aftershock and after the Aftershock begins. One only needs look to the performance of their Aftershock mutual funds (Symbols: SHKNX and SHKIX) that are following the strategies put forth in their books to see that their investment strategies are not working. The mutual funds were started in December 2012 and March 2013, respectively, and as of November 6, 2013, had lost 7.9% and 6.2%, respectively. The books state that the goal prior to the Aftershock is to preserve capital and to achieve a small return. Clearly, this has not been done. Presumably, the authors are making good money off these books (as they keep churning out the same book with a couple of new chapters) and off the fees from the mutual funds, but they have yet to make a penny for their investors.

In summary, these books provide a good and compelling explanation of the state the nation's economy, but unfortunately lack credibility regarding how to invest in the current and forecasted economy due to the performance of their own mutual funds, which follow the strategies put forth in their books.

This is a great read to understand the bubble economy that our federal government has created, or more accurately, significantly intensifies in the name of softening the supposed harsh edges of capitalism. It is a level-headed and sobering explanation of how the government, particularly the Federal Reserve, tampers with the economy and despite good intentions, actually makes the crashes worse. This is not another book on "normal" bubbles (e.g. dot com)...it analyzes the dangerous differences with the bubbles of today, with a special focus on the federal debt and the dollar bubbles which will make the other bubbles such as real estate seem like minor blips. Read this book to find out what you might do to keep you money from going to "money heaven." Of course, it is always wise to consult a professional who shares or at least supports your views before investing. The challenge is that most investors do not have the options required to truly protect themselves from the coming crashes. A better book on investment directions to consider is "The Real Crash" by Peter Schiff.

The authors contend that continued government stimulus has created an economy made up of numerous bubbles which will burst in the near future. They outline how this situation developed, and recommend actions to take to prepare for the aftershock that will occur after the bubbles burst. Among their conclusions are: (1) ongoing expansion of the money supply will lead to uncomfortably high rates of inflation, (2) stocks, bonds, and real estate are now at unsustainable price levels, (3) it is possible to act now in order to avoid the bursting bubble and position oneself for the aftershock economy.
If you have read any of the authors' earlier writings, much of this book will be repetitive.

This is an awesome book. If you want to see things the way they are with no fluff and no it's the end of the world junk. This is for you. What to look for, where your at, what you should do. It's all here. I can't wait for the latest version to get the latest updates. It has happened exactly like they say. They have the right perspective for the economy and they were the first to know the crash in 2008 was coming and will to talk about it. Get this book if you want to have a retirement in the future. Thing are getting bad fast and you need to know what to do about it. This book will help. Do it please. It's hard to tell your family and friends this stuff because they think your a little out there but you have been wondering for a while and you will hear then do something about it. Do it now.

Wiedemer is writing a lot these days. If your investment counselor uses "bubble" in every other sentence, AFTERSHOCK is a good read. True, a lot of these are being sold by current events but he's been out-in-front of the trends.

I purchased Aftershock investor because the other book isn't released until March and I wanted to see what these guys had to say. This is geared towards investing and there's a lot of info for those in the stock market however there is still plenty of good info for those who just want to know what is going on in the economy. I've rated it 4 stars purely because I'm not qualified to say if it's fantastic for the investor readership that it's geared towards.
