Nothing Unique Here,
This review is from: The Album (Audio CD)
This album sounds like 90% of every other house album coming out these days. All the soul has been drained from this once-great genre, exchanged for robotic replacements. Looking back at the House Connection and early Bangin The Box series, its hard to believe where Bad Boy Bill has found himself. Instead of the innovator and stand-out DJ he once was, he has become merely a regurgitator of current trends.

Well Worth the Wait,

Been a fan of Bad Boy Bill's for years. It's great seeing how his mixes have evolved over the years. I personally like the faster mixing, and turntable tricks that made him famous. With his last entry, Behind the Decks: Live, he was mixing tracks at about the same speed as everyone else. Some of the tracks went as long as 5 minutes, while most sat around 3. The 20 tracks left fans of his 35+ mixes wanting that old Bill-style.
So here we are 3 years later, waiting for a new signature Bill mix (or third House Connection effort), and Bill does the unexpected - he releases a full-length artist album. With songs like Happy, Just Like I Want, and Someday all being favorites of those who purchased his last two mixes, this makes perfect sense. After giving the album a fairly good listen, it really is a great album. It is everything an electronic artist album should be. Short edits of all songs (not the 6-8 minute DJ mix version), other artist providing vocal work for the tracks, and a more mainstream sound. By mainstream I mean something that can be put in an iTunes playlist at a party, and not have everyone "notice some techno" just came on when the track goes from Coldplay to it. Falling Anthem is already a proven success, Rockit has Bill at his best, Fast Life will be his new hit with Alex Peace, and the other songs are all equally worthy to be in your iTunes collection. 3 things I hope for Bill in the future: when he releases singles from the album, he releases "radio edits" of the remixes as well, and with b-sides like Someday that fans still have trouble getting; he goes back to mixing fast, and he achieves crossover success with this album. It's been a long time coming, and it was well worth the wait.

"The Album" is an extremely well produced, written, and engineered album. Bill has once again exceeded my expectations! Bill is pushing his creativity to a new extreme. The sound is fresh, addictive and pure.
1) Do What You Like - That synth is off the hook. Love the breakdown. 2) Headlock - This is an instant "Club Anthem". This track really bounces. 3) Fast Life - Great Hook. The synth is hard! 4) Got That Feeling - The vocals are perfect. 5) Falling Anthem -This track really speaks for itself. I love everything about it. The singer did an amazing job. 6) Ishy - My favorite. It's different and catchy. It's very well written. All I can say is "WOW" to those horns. I can see this track being very successful. 7) Bite It - Great vocal clipping effect. The breakdown is smooth. 8) Rockit - This is a remake of the Herbie Hancock original. Nice but I would of love to hear Bill scratch on it. 9) Wait - That Bass is tight! The vocals are tight! I like the down tempo feel. 10) If I Tell You - Talk about smooth! This track has appeal. This one has a softer, mellow feel. 11) Don't Stop - Great hook synth! This one leaves you wanting more. I wish is didn't stop! Watch him Live! His live shows are like no other. He can take a crowd to a level like I've never seen any other DJ do before. His connection to the crowd is natural, almost like they have the same heartbeat. He knows exactly what to play and when to play it. Pure Genius. A quick note: I really don't think this is a change in style or neglect to his older sound. Any logical thinker would know that BBB doesn't follow trends or styles, he sets them. Most people only know or recognize Bill from his mixes on tape, CD or even from WBMX or B96. This is not necessarily a bad thing but this does not define Bill. If you don't understand this album or can't comprehend the shear talent, you must be listening to different album that I listened to.
