I still know no rudiments of this game. But the emotions of winning or losing is the same in any sport I feel I was let into the life in New Zealand. I did not understand all the positions and plays of rugby but that did not keep me from enjoying this book

This book does a good job of capturing the changing face of New Zealand Society from the 1950s through to the 21st Century within the theme of rugby. The story is makes an enjoyable read and many aspects reminded me of my own childhood in NZ in the 1960s. A distracting aspect is the poor editing (typos etc).

The author did a great job of making me care about the characters. And curious about what was going to happen next. The book, however, was in need of good editing. There were some basic errors that an editor should have caught.

Really shows how things have changed in NZ with the game going professional. Not so much on the game side of things, but the culture around the game, veiws by different types of people and also what was and is now deemed culturally and socially acceptable. A bloody good read!!
