This is the second book by Len D Martin on a minor Hollywood studio. Republic being the first. Again an invaluable source of information on all 452 films from this studio Allied Artists. This was an affiliation of Monogram Pictures who had decided that all their bigger budget movies would be put out by this new studio.
This is a paperback with a synopsis of each movie and a handful of photo's and a lot of photo's of movie posters from the day are here. This I found quite amusing as the way they portrayed the movie. Take this announcement from a 1958 movie called 'Joy Ride": "All the pent-up fury of a generation gone wild with SENSATIONAL new star Rad Fulton."
So sensational, I am still waiting to here about him 55 years later. Still this is a great read and a great companion to the Republic Pictures book.

I have thought that Allied Artists has to have been one of the most interesting studios around. They seemed to specialize in cheap, but popular junk like Attack of the 50 Foot Woman while the same studio made Friendly Persuasion. At one time they seem to have had a claim to more prestigious pictures, but for some reason they seem to have lost control of them, like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, one of the most paranoia-inducing films I have ever seen. The movies still controlled by Allied Artists are now owned by Warner Brothers.I have a feeling we won't see the likes of this type of studio again.
