5.0 out of 5 stars The best of this type of train video
If you are looking for a realistic train video for your young train loving kids, I'd get this one, and believe me, I've tried most all of them! This video is really professionally done, very educational, has great train footage, and really includes a great deal of train information for kids, as well as important safety information. My husband and I both watched it...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Alphabet Train
I will willingly admit that my train-crazy 3 year old loves this video and I love the footage but the disturbingly amateurish voice-over is really enough to make me toss it under the wheels of the 10:15 express. There is another kid's train video which I would heartily recommend -- Choo Choo Trains Up Close and Very Personal ( a whole series of videos with similar titles...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Educatonal Video!, December 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Alphabet Train (VHS Tape)
"The Alphabet Train" is a great video. It uses trains (really neat ones at that) to teach the alphabet ("A" is for "All Aboard", etc.) One neat aspect of the video is that kids learn more than just the alphabet. The video uses trains to show kids things like "over and under" (the train is going OVER the bridge, etc.) and other things. The kids really talk back and interact with the children on the video! This is a great video! END

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!, February 14, 2001
This review is from: The Alphabet Train (VHS Tape)
I rented this video from the library and now I will be buying it for my two year old. He has watched it nonstop since I brought it home. This is really a great video, not only do the kids the learn the alphabet but they learn all kinds of information about trains. It is well narrated with comments from real children and lots of great information and encouragement from the narator. What I think I like best is there is no sillyness to this video. Perfect for all those little train buffs out there!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kids love this video!, January 20, 1999

Some children from the Middle East were visiting in our neighborhood. They came to meet my children. I had just purchased this video and the children wanted to see it. Unsure how the "newcomers" would react, I said we'd try it for a few minutes. Well, a few minutes became an hour until we reached the end of the tape as all of the children (seven of them: one from India, three from Syria, and three from the US ranging in age from two years to six years)sat glued to the screen. They enthusiastically interacted with the tape and the children's voices on the tape. They hummed with the music, and excitedly told each other about what they thought they were learning. This is a MUST-BUY tape. Even the adults enjoyed it! END

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't get enough of the Alphabet Train!, December 6, 2003
This review is from: Alphabet Train [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I also rented this from the Library and ended up having to buy it for my train obsessed 2 1/2 year old son. It has surpassed the Thomas series as his favorite video -- that says it all. His twin sister (who's only train tolerant) enjoys it too and they're both learning the alphabet!

You would think that this video would be a bore...basically it goes through the alphabet listing various train-related words, and explaining a little bit about each one. But it's fun to see the American scenery rolling by, and there is something quaint about the whole production. The most interesting part is that my three and a half year old son LOVES it, and at the moment it has become his most-requested video. He's learned a lot about trains, expanded his vocabulary, and is probably getting some phonics in there as well (although I would quibble with some of the words like, G is for...generations. ???)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Video!, July 31, 2001
This review is from: The Alphabet Train (VHS Tape)
My two year old is a train nut, and has watched this movie daily since we purchased it. He's even telling me about what he's learned any time we're near a train or a railroad! He's also recognising more words when he sees them. I highly recommend it.

I will willingly admit that my train-crazy 3 year old loves this video and I love the footage but the disturbingly amateurish voice-over is really enough to make me toss it under the wheels of the 10:15 express. There is another kid's train video which I would heartily recommend -- Choo Choo Trains Up Close and Very Personal ( a whole series of videos with similar titles in fact) which uses most of the same exact footage but does not subject viewers to the stilted and painfully clumsy voice-over of this video. I'm well aware things like this are done on a shoe-string, but don't hire your dad to do the narration where a real actor is required.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a fantastic video!, February 28, 1999

I purchased this video elsewhere on the web (sorry Amazon, but you don't have it listed in the Children's Video section), and was truly suprised at how good it is.

It's nice to see that there's somenting out there besides Thomas the Tank Engine and Barney. My child just loves this tape and watches it over and over. END

My 2½ year old son LOVES this video and has actually learned his ABC's from it. He is a huge train fan and he really connected with the concept of this video. He asks to watch it every day.
