4.0 out of 5 stars Liked this a Lot February 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The entire table of contents isn't shown and there's no Look Inside, but I don't think I'd quibble with the claim of over 70 recipes. (I wasn't going to count this one.) The TOC is hyperlinked.

All we're really told about the author is that she's written other books. However, some effort has been made to personalize the cookbook with a chatty comment.

I would suggest reading the recipes carefully before cooking (which I would always recommend anyway) because I found some quirks here and there. Not errors, really, but just...well, little things that I wasn't expecting. Some of the recipes would make a HUGE amount for my small family. The eggplant "rolls" don't seem to be rolled. Another recipe calls for cooking a whole chicken in the slow cooker and then says "cut meat into slices" for serving. The Coq Au Vin calls for white wine, which is different. I'm not sure what makes the Chicken and Salsa "slightly unconventional." One recipe calls for chicken thighs "cut into quarters" but doesn't specify "boneless" - I can't quite picture quartering a bone-in thigh. (Boneless also makes sense because there's no information about removing bones after cooking.)

The author gained points with me by using flour versus cornstarch for long cooking and using cornstarch only at the end, as well as advising against precooked sausage. A lasagna recipe calls for a "real" white sauce. One recipe calls for greasing the liner with trimmed fat, an idea I actually really like. About 7 recipes call for "cream of X" soup - I don't use it, but there are enough recipes here that I *will* happily use to make this really inconsequential. It's a smaller percentage than a lot of books I look at.

I consider this to be a really helpful collection. I would give it 4-1/2 if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some tasty sounding recipes July 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Author Catherine Reynolds has compiled a slow cooker cookbook filled with plenty of tasty sounding recipes. I look forward to trying some of those recipes, especially during summer, as using my slow cooker helps keep my kitchen cool during the heat of summer. Some of the recipes you will find in her cookbook include:

Classic Chicken Gumbo & Rice
Homemade Steak Diane
Chicken Enchiladas
Homemade Asian Pork & Noodles

There is an interactive table of contents making navigation easy.

Note: I "borrowed" the book as part of the new $9.99 KindleFire library loan program.

3.0 out of 5 stars It could have been better. October 15, 2012

This cookbook is okay, but not worth the price. It contains some good recipes, but most of them are no-brainers. Dishes that most of us could have done without a cookbook to tell us how. For a new bride, or for someone who has never used a slow cooker it's a good choice, but for those of us who have been cooking for awhile, no, you don't need this.

It's ok. But at the end of the day it is just a cookbook. It's up to you whether you like the recipes or not but sadly you have to buy the book to see what recipes are in it. So good luck if you you get it and lets hope there are some good recipes in there for you.
