As far as textbooks go, it was the formatting that make it what it is. Lots of pictures & primary sources compliment the information being covered in the text. Makes it not as boring a read as most history books. You actually find yourself reading all the little extras.

What makes this series truly great? The fact that they give you a choice on book format to purchase. In a college this textbook would be for a US history 1 & 2. You can chose to purchase the expensive and heavy Hardback if you know you are going to take both parts. Or you can buy a softback of Vol 1 or Vol 2, depending on which class you are enrolled in.

As an adult student, who only recently returned after over 10 year gap I had no reason to want to buy the big textbook. Already had US History 1 credits from the last time around. Through Amazon.com I was able to find the correct edition of the book, while the college bookstore refused to carry it!

Thankful that Amazon.com exists. :)

The reading structure allow the reader to visualize and understand American History from outside and inside. Wonderful maps, statistical charts, great photos, and a very good section titled: historical question. If you are the type of person in exploring new perspectives of the American History, do not hesitate to look this book.

I love this text book. I bought this for my college history class, but this text was easy to read, with a lot of pictures. Reminded me of my history text book back in elementary/middle school, yet had valuable information and written clearly.

Maybe it is a part of aging but I liked this book as a required read for an online history course. Not having enjoyed history in earlier school days, I found this book to present history in a different way that was more personal. By that, it was not just dates and names but what was actually going on during the times and some of the why conditions were like they were resulting in "historical" moments. The book and course actually allowed me to better understand not only the past but I can know better understand and define the future. Very insightful. My 4 vs 5 star rating would have to be in coverage of current history (1960 forward). I feel that this crucial time period up to the present has so much "history" yet it is not covered enough. Overall, a very good book worth having.

Listed as good condition. It's practically brand new. No loose pages or writing. I think I found one bent corner but it doesn't matter to me. The spine is barely broken in. Very happy I got this and for such a killer price.

This was a textbook for class and rather than skimming through to complete the class I was actually very interested in the material.

This is one of my books I needed for school but it was rather well done, but it could have been my teacher's lesson plans.
