Until now! Guided by the discovery of an ancient artefact, a determined professor of archaeology and a beautiful New England heiress join forces in the quest of a lifetime. Overcoming treachery and deadly obstacles, they follow an ever-murderous trail that eventually leads them to a barren, desert valley containing a stunning secret -- one the modern world may not yet be prepared to accept.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent must read book. April 21, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read a lot. I can read 3 or 4 books a day, if I have the time. The Amun Chamber had everything I look for in this genre of book. There is the quest for the lost "treasure", good historical information and background, likable "heroes", despicable villains, a little romance, good plot twists and turns and it kept just the right pace to keep you interested until the very end. The author does an excellent job of pulling you in and taking you along for the ride. Give this book a shot and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. I am very impressed with this first time author and will be looking for more books from him in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars So glad I read this! April 17, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is not my usual genre! At all. I decided to download the free sample and was quickly sucked in...I had to read the rest of the book.

It is hard for me to believe this is a first time author. This book is very well written and a very exciting page turner. I hated turning my Kindle off at night because I wanted to see what was going to happen next.

Give it a try, I think you'll enjoy it too.

1.0 out of 5 stars I just couldn't get through it March 3, 2011
By D
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Thankfully it was cheap. Admittedly, had I spent more money on it I probably would have tried harder, as I don't give up on books, but I got about a quarter of the way through and gave up. I was getting pretty darn bored, with little plot advancement and cardboard characters.
The book needs more proofreading, too. Sight instead of site, loosing instead of losing, I kept getting yanked out of the book.
The glowing reviews made me interested, as this should be the type of book I love. Alas, I just cannot recommend it. Go find a nice Douglas Preston or even James Rollins book instead.

Book Review: The Amun Chamber
by Daniel Leston
Reviewed by J Bryden Lloyd

Writing Style - 3.5/5.0 (Good)
This was a well-constructed novel. A good length and nicely written from the off.
However, I think if I never see a sentence beginning with `Too' again, it won't be too soon. This was a rather frustrating occurrence throughout the text, which I felt showed a lack of imagination in the way the author needed to say `also' or `and', and although it was initially a refreshing thing to see, it quickly became annoying, and more so when it started appearing in character dialogue.

Character Development - 4.0/5.0 (Very Good)
The main characters of the plot are nicely introduced and well-drawn. The lead bad guy was a bit of an enigma, with no apparent link to the past, but having said that, it seemed the story never intended him to be anything more than the opportunist he turned out to be. Unfortunately this left him as a very two-dimensional being, with little character development beyond the initial offerings.
In fairness, the weakness of that one character - although key - does not really detract from the story, as there are plenty of other rich offerings in the cast, each nicely woven into a complex but driven series of plots and sub-plots.

Descriptive - 4.0/5.0 (Very Good)
I liked the descriptive very much. The people and places were vividly portrayed for the most part. I thought it lost a little of the power towards the end, but to be fair, by this juncture the sub-plots were being quickly diminished and there was a lot going on.

Language & Grammar - 3.5/5.0 (Good)
Personal preference regarding some word structure aside, I felt that this work was missing the final `polish' it needed to make it the finished article.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not An Easy Read May 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Amun Chamber is a long-winded novel about a modern day Indiana Jones (and friends) looking to find the location of a tomb while at the same time trying to solve the mysterious deaths of several prominent archaeologists from the mid 1950's who were looking for the same tomb.

I almost stopped reading this book several times but figured I have so much time invested in it that I needed to finish it for my own sake. Since this was a free download I cannot be too disappointed but I really cannot recomment it to anyone else if they have to pay for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars None February 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The topic is interesting, but the book is not very well written. The overuse of italics and exclamation points is distracting, maybe compensation for lack of compelling dialogue. I don't recommend this book. It's like a poorly written knock off of The DaVinci Code.

1.0 out of 5 stars I gave up May 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Sorry, but this book could not capture my attention. The characters were all too perfect. I should have known not to expect too much when this was in the description: "ancient artefact, a determined professor of archaeology and a beautiful New England heiress."

Typo and the infamous beautiful heiress. Are heiresses ever normal looking?

At any rate, if someone is looking for a book that rides along the surface, you might like this one. My reading time is too precious, so I shelved it and moved on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good history, implausible heroics and story line June 26, 2011
By Gloria
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Book has the basics as noted by other reviews, especially good background and descriptions. It lacks proof reading which seriously detracts. Its story line, especially as it reaches conclusion, is implausible with super human feats accomplished by its hero and friends (in "super hero" style). Entertaining read but little credibility for the real world. Definitely not worth a high price for this e-Kindle read.

This was a pretty good novel. Already ordered the "sequel". Could have been great if it had a bit more action. But really liked the characters, settings, and subject.
