More About the Author

I am an independent author living in Ohio. I've been writing in some form since early 2002, though most of what I wrote makes me glad that it was several computers ago. Since then, I've published three books on Amazon Kindle. The Animals, a horror novel about a worldwide animal rebellion, was released in July 2010. I released two more books in late 2011. Transfer is a science fiction novel about an alien invasion of Earth, and Dead of Night is an alternate history novel about zombies in Nazi Germany. (Yes, seriously.)

I am currently working on my fourth novel, Done is Done.

I thought this book was excellent! Don't read it if you have a weak stomach! It does make you think...what if?? What if all the creatures on earth turned on mankind? Who would win? I won't spoil the ending for anyone but I can assure you - neither side is willing to give up without a fight. It starts in a restaurant and the author does an excellent job of introducing the characters in an interesting way that kept me turning the pages. When the action begins to start the author builds it up quickly and made my heart pound as I imagined what it would be like to be stuck in a restaurant, afraid to step out the door! How long will they be safe inside? They can't stay there forever? Is this happening locally, the country, or is it world wide? All these questions are answered and the suspense is intense. You probably won't put this story down until you are finished!

I was on a "Zombie" kick and some how came across Nick Steckel's The Animals. It was an engrossing read, that gave a bit of character developement, not unlike a short novel by the Great One-Stephen King, then the whirlwind of a ride started and didn't stop. I was actually reading this while on the road to Thanksgiving dinner, and did not do my share of the driving since I wasnt going to put the kindle down until I completed this. I happen to have a cat much like the mascot at the restaurent and now will look at her somewhat askance. I have to hand it to Nick Steckel for keeping the suspense going right up to the end. I only wish it were published as I have some Stone Age friends that would enjoy this on paper. I will look for more of Mr. Steckel's work.

All told, this book was a good time killer, but the main thing that bothered me was that there were so many characters who were essentially throw-away characters. This made it difficult at times to keep track of names and who was who in the story. The book does have some good parts, and hints at some intriguing things, such as the animals cooperating. I would have liked a more thorough explanation on why and how they we able to cooperate. Also, the ending is very abrupt, with shades of "Left 4 Dead" in that everywhere the survivors went they brought forth with them.
