THE APATHETIC GOD: EXPLORING THE CONTEMPORARY RELEVANCE OF DIVINE IMPASSIBILITY. By Daniel Castelo. Colorado Springs: Paternoster, 2009. Pp. xvi + 156. $33.99.

Castelo writes approvingly of the notion that God is impassible, even though contemporary theologians and philosophers widely hold that God is not impassible. For C., many of the standard defenses of the thesis that God is passible are open to serious internal criticism. He argues further that the claim of God's impassibility is of positive theological merit: it safeguards divine transcendence against accounts that otherwise venture into theologically suspicious forms of anthropomorphism.
