Book Description

It was just supposed to be an opportunity to make amends. Jesse simply wanted to find the awkward, overweight girl he’d betrayed in high school, apologize and move on with his life. It should have been a 15 minute stop in Miami. Instead, it turns into a weekend of running from thugs, stealing exotic animals, dealing with a seriously unbalanced criminal mastermind, and stumbling on a diamond smuggling operation.

Gabrielle is no longer the overweight, awkward girl she was in high school. She’s left high school behind entirely and is living the high life as a trophy wife to an incredibly powerful man. That is, until she learns about her husband’s criminal connections and realizes he might have every reason to silence her for good. So when fate intervenes, and some random guy shows up on her doorstep, begging for forgiveness, she is quick to play along and hitch a ride out of town. Does it really matter that she has no idea who he is?

Unfortunately, fate has other ideas in mind. Soon, Gabby and Jesse are running for their lives, hiding from Gabby’s obsessed husband and partnering up with a completely unbalanced criminal who has her own agenda. But neither Jesse nor Gabrielle is prepared for the biggest complication of all. Love.

***The Apology is a romantic suspense comedy novella of approx. 28,000 words***

3.0 out of 5 stars Different Yet Entertaining January 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
At first I thought what in God's green earth did I get myself into when downloading this book but as it went on I found the humor in it and actually enjoyed it. The characters were far fetched, endearing and just plain fun at times. It had it's serious moments and it's laugh out loud ones as well. All around I thought it was a good book especially for the price (got it as a free download). Enjoy and happy reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Paced and Entertaining! December 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Essa Alroc has a real winner with this book. Fast paced and entertaining, I read it without putting the book down and immediately went to the Kindle Store to buy her other book.

The characters she creates make you care about them from the first page and the author's ability to bring laughs into tense moments in the story make a nice contrast to the action and anxiety as they move through the challenges they face right from page one.

This is an author I will be watching from now on. She made a fan out of me about 5 pages in with her well written, very entertaining storytelling.

4.0 out of 5 stars Made Me Laugh! January 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There were a few little inconsistencies (Jesse bought a hand pump at Walmart, but has enough money for a motel room later?), and minor editorial issues (toward the end of the story, Jesse is referred to as Jay), but overall, this was a good read. And yes, in reality, Gabby should have done more than punch him in the nose when the light bulb went off over her head and she really remembered who Jesse was, but hey, it's a romance; kinda hard to have a HEA if the heroine kills the hero, right?

The characters were entertaining and the story had a couple of interesting twists. I laughed out loud at Russell the Alpaca! I downloaded this story when it was free, but I'd be willing to pay for more from this writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars HYSTERICAL!!! May 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story had be laughing out loud in places. Don't get me wrong. It has some dark parts. The close-your-eyes-and-stick-your-fingers-in-your-ears parts that come with crime bosses and seeking information with chainsaws (if you get my drift).

But the guy that tried to make things right for being a jerk in school turns out to be a really decent guy now. The kind you just can't find any more. And he is sticking with the girl in trouble no matter what.

There is a crime lord husband, the wife who needs to get away, the high school friend who shows up just as her world falls apart, a crazy friend, the Columbians, a zoo of exotic animals pooping diamonds, gunfire, car chases...

Well, let's just say there's a LOT of action in a short read so why not do yourself a favor and grab a glass of tea, put your feet up, get comfortable, and enjoy a terrific story! You'll be glad you did!

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and quick read February 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I purchased this a free Kindle book. The story was entertaining--and even though some have said 'corny' or 'unbelievable', I just say it's fiction. What do I want from a fiction book? Entertainment. As long as the far-fetched ideas in a book are executed well and flow with the story I have no problem. With that said--it is a short story of only 70+pages. For free it is great, but not sure if I would want to pay $1 for it.
The characters were portrayed well and the story has serious and funny moments. At any rate, my favorite character was Sal and I am happy to see that Sal emerges in two other books Strangely Sober and Asymmetric Angels I will be purchasing Strangely Sober.
Strangely Sober is only $0.99 and has over 300 pages.

My recommendation to the author would be to keep this book for Free---great introduction to the characters. I would have never bought a 70+book for a dollar, but getting it for free did lead me to buy the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Apology needed! This book was awesome! January 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I finished this book in one night. The characters in it are unique, and pull you into the story. After reading this one first, I'm now planning to read her other two books. Essa really seems to have a way of making you love her characters. I feel like she did a really good job developing the relationship between her two main characters. She also reminded me of times in my high school that I really kind of miss! Strangely Sober is a bar in this one, and if I'm not mistaken, the setting for the book by the same name. If the book "Strangely Sober" is as funny as the parts of "The Apology" where it was mentioned, it's going to be hilarious. Great work Essa, keep them coming!

Sometimes being sorry is too little too late. History cannot be rewritten. A disparate bunch of people team up to restore peaceful unity. The outcome is explosive and no one comes out the same! Expect the unexpected to reign supreme!
