It would be difficult to improve on Lightfoot's translation and introductory notes to each of the apostolic writings contained in this volume. Another reason it is a notch above is the choice of writings included to contain both letters of Clement and the Shepherd of Hermas - two works very important in the early church. If you had but one copy of these writings to purchase, and did not need the greek texts along with the translation, this would still be your best choice.

J. B. Lightfoot was a great scholar and made great advances to biblical scholarship during his lifetime. However, great advances have also been made in the two lifetimes since his death in 1889. Michael Holmes actually began the process of revising Lightfoot's text of the Apostolic Fathers and improving his translation in regard both to lexical advances in understanding Koine Greek and stylistic improvements for the second and third editions of Lightfoot's work released by Baker Book House. His work eventually surpassed that of the 19th-century sage, resulting in the publication of his own edition of the Apostolic Fathers, available from Baker Academic and costing less than the hardcover edition offered here of Lightfoot's (now public-domain) work. I would also recommend Bart Ehrman's text and translation in the venerable Loeb Classical Library (2003; 2 volumes, a bit more costly) over Lightfoot's original for the same reasons -- 120 years have meant a lot in terms of re-thinking textual criticism, understanding the nuances of Koine grammar and lexicography, and understanding the social and historical contexts of these second-century authors.

This is a review for the Kindle edition, which appears to be a simple pdf scan converted into Kindle format. The Greek characters did not properly transfer into this edition, and the English text is a jumbled mess, rendering this Kindle version unreadable.
