4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, August 10, 2000
The book is a wonderful resource for the beginer archaeologist. It explains all the terms, tools, and tricks of the trade. It also has a wonderful list of places you can go to dig and companies that will help place you. The only issue I have with it is that it is 9 years old...a newer, updated book would be great because the listings of digs would be updated. Nice photos and diagrams...written with a sense of humor

Okay, you don't have to be a professional archaeologist to own this book, but since I have worked with both professional and amateur alike, I found it to be quite useful. Very informative about both basics and advanced topics. Great for anybody who is a beginning archaeologist, amateur, anthropologist, paleontologist, park ranger, hobbyist, even if you like to just play in the dirt. The text in this book was well written and only allows for those interested in this field to thirst for even better works relating to archaeology. I allowed a fellow student to borrow this for some field work in civil engineering, as many principles with land management are similar.

Very good to own for curiosity seekers, professionals and amateurs alike.
