Book Description

We live in such a hyper-connected society today flooded with so much talent and so much noise. Talent alone won’t cut it. Whether you’re an artist, musician, writer or creator of sorts, to stand out in the world you must be unmistakable.

It’s the only option.

To create unmistakable work, you must take risks. You must cross lines, personal and professional. You must go to the point of a no return. On my 34th birthday, I asked myself a question. "If this had been the last year of my life, would I have been ok with how I'd lived?" When my answer was a resounding NO, I knew that something had to change.

So I started to write in a way that was more honest, more transparent and more vulnerable than I ever had. I committed career suicide, one Facebook status update at a time. And in that process I found my voice. This collection of essays is about that journey. I hope it inspires you to find that unmistakable artist in yourself."

5.0 out of 5 stars SO GOOD I HAD TO REWRITE A G-RATED REVIEW!! October 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Wanna know how [fudging] good this book is?

So [fudging] good I had to write this review for a second time. I'm not completely sure why my first review never showed up but I highly suspect it had something to do with the little bit of [no-no] language I used to express my EXTREME DELIGHT!

To prevent another #reviewfail, I'm gonna keep this G-rated as you'll see in brackets. Without further ado, I'll give you 3 simple reasons why you should buy this book:

1. Srini writes from the [doggone] heart: There are only a few people whose writing I eat up on a regular basis... who stick their neck out on the line and get really [bare] with their works of art. Srini is one of them and probably the only one whose novel-length Facebook updates I've been reading pretty much every single day for more than half a year now.
YOU'LL FEEL INSPIRED AND MOVED.

2. Srini will disrupt your thinking: If you're used to thinking inside the box or following best practices, this book will kick you in the [bottom]. After reading this book, you'll begin to question why you've been okay with conforming for as long as you have. You'll start to ask yourself better questions to find out what you really care about. You'll learn to understand that there are other options on the table than what you can visibly and reasonably see.
YOU'LL NEVER SEE THE WORLD THE SAME AGAIN.

3. Srini will help you to give a [dung] about what truly matters and how to make a contribution to the world: I am not exaggerating when I say that reading Srini's writing has literally inspired me to write with more vulnerability and has given me the bravery to own my voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Orders another re-read! October 21, 2013
By FW
Format:Kindle Edition
I am graduating with a first or second class honours degree in a couple of month's time, and my lectures are keen to place me in the best companies when I step into the working world. I have already worked for four years in the corporate world prior to entering university, and I know deep in my heart that the corporate world is not where I want to end up again. When others walked into the office in suits and crisp skirts, I turned up in jeans and tshirts. When others hide when the CEO does his rounds, I smile and bounce my head listening to (banned) music through my phone. Nevertheless, I was tolerated (but never appreciated) because I always delivered more than anyone.

I have always thought there was something wrong with me in my inability to just follow and submit, but reading this book made me understand that I am not alone - I am a corporate misfit.

And in recent months as I began to feel the pressure by my lecturers, family, and friends alike to climb the corporate ladder again, The Art of Being Unmistakable reminds me that I don't have to sell my soul. That it's ok to go against the norm. That it's ok to embrace my fears, and just be the best version of me. That it's ok to fall short in the yardstick of measurement of society today, as long as I get to do what is real to me.

I foresee myself reading this book again and again (since it's such a concise and enjoyable read), especially when I start to waver in my determination to be unmistakeable. Thanks Sri for sharing your insights and experiences with us :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for motivating new thought in an old brain. October 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I was 59 years old in a job I loved for 25 years, and one day without a clue was called in and fired. For a long while I felt and acted as though someone had died. Upon evaluation I realized it was me, except that I was still breathing. Today I realize maybe this is meant to be a new beginning. Thanks to Glen Beck for recommending this book and for AmazoN's Prime Kindle lending library, and the author, Mr. Tao for writing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would've been 5 stars w/o all the BS spelled out. November 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm old school. I was born prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I will recommend this book to my friends but not without warning them about the offensive language that could have been abbreviated and still gotten the author's points across.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book that will make you think. October 24, 2013
By Autumn
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great book that will inspire you and make you think about what you want in life. It was a quick, satisfying read and got me thinking about the goals I've been pursuing. I have two very different paths I'm heading down right now- one is creative work and one is a good cause, but leaves out my creative side. This book made me think about how I might be able to merge the two and be authentic. I also really like the idea of sitting down and deciding which 20% of my life is "worthy of mastery".

1.0 out of 5 stars Want to be happy? Get fired and go surfing. November 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Be yourself. Don't worry about what other people think. There, I just save you $2.99.

Like others, I also bought his book on the recommendation of Glen Beck. I like Glen, but sorry, this book's a dud. It's new age philosophy about finding your bliss and following your heart. Nice work IF you can get it. This book seems to take the very selfish approach that in whatever you do it should all be about you--how it all affects you, only do things you like, blah blah. As a married father of 3, I can't drop out and spend my time surfing, writing, and hoping for a paycheck. Unfortunately in life there are times when you have to suck it up and maybe do what you don't want because you have responsibilities other than yourself regardless if it's your bliss or not.
Yes, there's some stuff in here about if you like what you do you'll do better, don't let the "Man" bring you down and tell you what's important, etc. But I didn't need a book to tell me that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Less impressed than I had expected to be.
