I thoroughly enjoyed reading "The Art of Leading"! The book is well written and succinct with clear examples of how leadership influences performance. Wally boils down the complex topic of leadership into three easy to understand principles that focus on giving people the tools (context, belief, and trust) to perform beautifully. Although all three principles are critical for success, the second principle is the one that is so often missed by leadership gurus: your thoughts influence your behavior and the behavior of those around you. For some, leadership comes naturally; however, even strong leaders can learn from this book how to finesse their skills even further. I am indebted to Wally for his assistance in helping to facilitate a strong culture of trust at our organization.

The author provides an excellent framework for making fundamental change in any organization. The information is immediately useful and can be adapted to fit a variety of situations. It has genuinely changed my understanding of how to affect positive change by looking at the traditional methods for evaluation from a fresh perspective. Anyone who has been a part of a performance evaluation knows that the way they are handled in most systems provide little benefit to the organization, the supervisor, or the employee. The principles provided in the book are not heavy with theory, but offer a much more practical approach that is easily accessible. The ideas and examples the author provides can be implemented immediately. Great stuff!

This is an outstanding book. Through simple, understandable language and many real-world examples, Hauck makes leadership real; something that can be learned and achieved based on behaviors we can all adopt. I worked for 20 years at a Fortune 50 corporation attending many management/leadership seminars, and read many such books, and I found his insights to be unique. He expertly melds the "softer" side of leadership, such as managing trust, with the "hard" side of building an effective system based on predictable processes. I recommend this book to anyone in a leadership position from the neophyte manager up to the most seasoned senior executive.

Book review: The Art of Leading: Dr. Wally Hauck has hit a home run with this deceptively simple, yet amazingly substantive book on the foundations of functional leadership mindsets and practices. I foresee that this book will inspire a lot of thoughtful discussion about the evolution of management and how best to catapult this country back to it's heyday by harnessing the creativity and engagement of our workforce through fair uses of power by management. I read this book in one sitting and just keep going back to it, again and again.
