This is one of the best albums I've listened to.

Also, you need to adjust the volume a few times, but the CD is worth the trouble!

A Living Legend
The Art of Renée Fleming is a new collections of songs and arias performed by Renee Fleming. Most of the works on this recording have been released before but it is an excellent survey of the broad spectrum of eras and styles for which the artists is so highly respected. The works offered here are as follows:
Bellini: Casta Diva (from Norma)
Bernstein: Somewhere (from West Side Story) with Placido Domingo
Catalani: Ebben? Ne andrò lontana (from La Wally)
Cilea: Io son l'umile ancella (from Adriana Lecouvreur)
Dvorak:'Mesícku na nebi hlubokém `Song to the Moon' (from Rusalka)
Gershwin:'Summertime (from Porgy and Bess)
Gounod:'Ah! Je veux vivre dans ce rêve (from Roméo et Juliette)'Ave Maria
Handel: Ombra mai fu (from Serse)
Korngold: Glück, das mir verbleib `Marietta's Lied' (from Die Tote Stadt)
Puccini: Vissi d'arte (from Tosca), Un bel di vedremo (from Madama Butterfly), O mio babbino caro (from Gianni Schicchi)
Schubert: Ave Maria, D839

And as added off the cuff encores she indulges her audience with these songs:
Wheels of a Dream [with Bryn Terfel]
Amazing Grace
Rodgers - Carousel / You'll Never Walk Alone
Hallelujah

For purists this album may seem redundant, but for the general public who simply enjoy the sound and the presence of Renée Fleming, this is a very special sampler. Grady Harp, June 12

Renee Fleming, one of the classical music industry's biggest stars, has finally been given an compilation that is geared towards the casual fan such as myself.

"The Art of Renee Fleming" (18 tracks; 80 min.) brings a very generous serving of some of Fleming's best known and beloved music. It starts fittingly with perhaps her best known performance, Schubert's "Ave Maria". From there we're treated to a smorgasbord of her best music, and they are all pretty much as delightful as the next track, but just to name a cpouple of my favorites: track 6, "Glück, das mir verblieb (Mariettas Lied)"; track 8, Puccini's "Vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore"; track 10, Gershwin's "Summertime" (from Porgy and Bess); and track 13, Handel's "Ombra mai fu". But as I already mentioned, there are really no weak songs or performances on here. The last 4 tracks are presented as "bonus tracks", not sure why, other than theat they are not strictly classica; music songs: Flaherty's "Wheels of a Dream", the traditional "Amazing Grace", Rogers' "You'll Never Walk Alone" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". At 80 min., you cannot get more than that on a single CD, and while I'm sure Fleming experts can make an argument she deserves a 2CD "best of". But for the casual fan, this will more than suffice. If there is anything negative to say about this otherwise more-than-solid collection, I must point out the skimpy liner notes and other credits. There is a 4 page historical perspective on Fleming, but that's about it.

The record has a beautiful and generous choice of her best arias. It could be considered, 'Renee's Greatest Hits!'
I find myself playing it over and over again.

This is the first time I have heard Ms Fleming sing, and her voice is exciting. Wonderful range. She seems comfortable with herself and this improves the richness of her voice. I would give the album five stars but for some of the songs which I did not care for; but that is just me and someone else probably likes likes the ones I don't. Good stuff!

This is a nice compilation of a variety of Renee Fleming's works. She handles the more popular songs more easily than some other opera stars who have tried to "crossover" into popular music.

This has some fabulous arias on it which earns it 5 stars. I don't care much for the other pieces like "Amazing Grace" and a few broadway tunes, but that's okay by me, I just skip them. Also, you need to adjust the volume a few times, but the CD is
worth the trouble!

Bought as a present for a fellow lover of Fleming. She is a national treasure. Nice collection, a wide range of things we don't have on other CDs.
