The four authors did a great job in the scope of the subject matter in this book. The publisher did a great job with The Table of Contents, Glossary and Index as all are comprehensive.

This book should have a 5-star rating. However, the publisher provides page after page of screen captures that are not legible! I paid $45.36, including sales tax, for this book and should return it, based upon the very poor reproduction of the many screen captures. However, I'll retain it, based upon the excellence of material provided by the four authors.

The staff at O'Reilly Media produced a quality book with good typography, cover design, paper stocks and perfect binding. This leads me to be completely baffled by their complete disregard of the terrible quality of the screen captures throughout the book.

This book is worth purchasing. But be forewarned, as you may be as frustrated as I am, about the terrible reproduction of every screen capture throughout the book.

This book is a comprehensive overview of SEO, it covers a wide variety of SEO topics, the new edition now touches on social media. It is less piratical than i would like however, i was looking for more actionable information rather than a primer on everything there is to know about SEO. I see this book as more of a prerequisite to in-depth actionable SEO techniques. If you want a though understanding of SEO theory this book will give it to you, but if your looking for immediate and actionable techniques this book will most likely not be what you are looking for. Its not that there is not ANY actionable information in this book, its just that the actionable tips are buried inside an exhaustive explanation of SEO theory. If you want to be an SEO expert, definitely get this book, if your just some guy who wants to improve rankings, there are other options out there, try distilled U.

Pros: Very in depth, Written by leading experts in SEO,

Cons: Less Actionable more theoretical.

This book is amazing.
If you are doing business on the web and want your site to rank anywhere (which means people can actually find you) then this book is a must.
It contains very detailed information on exactly how search works and how you can optimize your site to make search work for you.

Highly recommended.

This book gives a good review on key SEO elements. Interesting topic include keyword research, content creation and link marketing, vertical search, etc. In general, this book is focused on client-side SEO elements. It's a great tool book, easy to follow. For more advanced technical skills on sever-side SEO and integrated search marketing solution, Integrated Search Marketing Solution & Organic Search: Search Engine Optimization, Social Media, and Email Marketing: Winning Formula for SERP Dominance is an excellent tool book to read. It addresses the most critical topics and tactics in the online marketing for a business: SEO, social media and Email Marketing at one central location. It teaches you how to implement on-page, off-page and server-side optimization to boost up the SEO comptency of your website. For example , it teaches the readers about how to implement tactical link building to become the center of an authoritative hub and deploy facet navigation and page segmentation. It also shows the readers how to avoide duplicate conten, the tactics to deoply 301 redirect, and the SEO practics of exception handling and the adoption of custom 404 error page to increase visitor retention rate, and how to increase content / code ratio as well as the programming technques to boost the web performance.

On the other hand, Cognitive Search Marketing & Paid Search: Theory, Experiment, Practice and Tactics: A PPC Paradigm Powered by Persuasion and Cognition is a perfect read to polish your online marketing skills on paid search.

This is the only book I have read on SEO so I really can't compare it to other titles. That being said, however, at 716 pages this book packs a lot of content. Whether you're a business owner wanting to better understand SEO, a web designer or web developer wanting to better optimize your websites for SEO, or an espiring SEO guru, you'll be happy with the book.

Lots of good information on the basics of SEO and how pages are ranked and what influences their ranking. You'll learn how to best architect the website and content for optimal SEO indexing and ranking and how to measure and track the results of your labor. Web Developers will appreciate the guidelines for optimizing new websites as well as best practices for re-designing old websites to achieve better SEO while not losing existing page rank, etc.

The book also touches on how search is evolving and how it is heavily influenced by personalization, localization, social networking, and user preferences and data. Makes you wonder just how much the best practices in the book will hold true in the near future.

If you are new to SEO, you will find quite a bit of value from the book. It provides a good foundation while also providing a lot of depth. If you are an experienced web developer and been cognizant of SEO strategies and best practices over the years, you will find a lot of the principles we learned reinforced in the book and a good refresher.
