In The Atomic Sailor, author Laurice Lazebnik, tells a fascinating tale about some involved in one way or another in the U.S. Armed Forces, known for its many casualties some of whose stories are vividly portrayed in the book.

To her great credit, author Lazebnik makes her story both complex and clear—two characteristics that certainly do not jointly inhabit all novels. Moreover, the story is told in the first person present, no mean feat. But as an experienced writer, Ms. Lazebnik pulls it off with considerable brio.

As I read this remarkable and powerful novel, I was struck by the author’s imaginative variations on the transitive verbs that one might have reasonably expected from a mere journeyman author. Also, the plentiful similes and metaphors consistently delight.

This book is stimulating, challenging, and a great addition to a reader’s TBR list, with high priority.
