Wow! I have now listened to the whole album five times straight through and some of my favorite tracks over and over again. This is lyrical theology at its best and in my opinion is Shai Linne's best album yet, which I thought would have been impossible after Atonement. Granted, I need more time to make a statement like this, but at this time my thought is that this may simply be the best single album ever made.

Shai Linne's rapping is understandable and theologically accurate, and most importantly worship-inspiring. Each track focuses on an attribute of God. This means that from beginning to end the focus is on God. How refreshing! And the theology is presented in such a way that I find myself praising God for who he is, often in tears of worship, adoration, repentance, and devotion. The album seriously plays like a good book or sermon set to rhythm and music.

Shai Linne is not near as lyrically complex as some HHH rappers, but the simplicity is far from childish and instead makes his message easily understood and reflected upon. I have found that the result is that few rappers are able to consistently move my heart to worship God like Shai Linne. His lines and beats are brought in such a way that I never go away saying, "Wow, what a rapper," but rather "Amazing God!"

The music and beats are very good. As one of the other reviewers pointed out, the hooks and the beats are not the best. This album will not make the best "background music" or "mindless music". The lyrics carry the album not the beats. That said, I really do enjoy musical aspect of the album. It is very well done and enjoyable--I think the best Shai has done yet--but sometimes a bit repetitive. The lyrics do carry the day with this album and the music is a good and appropriate complement.

5.0 out of 5 stars christian gospel November 4, 2011

This album is lyrically spectacular! Of course rapping about The Lord Jesus Christ is a extraordinary topic to rap about. But not too many rappers are lryical nowadays period whether their rapping about Christ or not. This ablum combines great music making with great lyrical ability and giving praise and honor to our Lord and Savior at the same time. It is definitely a must album to buy among christian or mainstream rap listeners. I give it 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album. November 2, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
Each time I listen to this album, the more I love it and the more I fall in love with God (going on 5th time through).

This album starts off with a new spoken word from Blaire Linne. She sounds more mature and amazing than before and puts a preview of God's beauty on display here.

Shai goes on to bring God glory over the next 14 tracks. I love how Shai doesn't try to hide or apologize for God's attributes, such as His wrath, judgment, election, and jealousy for His bride.

I would recommend purchasing this album, then looking up the verses and attributes yourself. A good book I'm reading is The Attributes of God by A.W. Pink.

Enjoy and God bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do You Know Him? November 9, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
All week long I've been listening to Shai Linne's newest album, The Attributes of God. I can't recommend it highly enough! I've long been a fan of his "lyrical theology", and his latest project continues to raise the bar for excellence in that area. "Attributes" has taken a huge leap forward musically as well. In a recent interview, the artist said he was "looking for an overall sound that was epic and cinematic, like a film score". He has certainly succeeded in that regard. Each track has a very different feel, providing significant musical contrast and interest, while the album flows seamlessly together as a whole.

The theme of the album is, as the title suggests, the attributes of God. Linne walks us through the list of characteristics which God revealed about himself in Exodus 33:18-34:14. Each song explores one or more of the attributes, arranged in the same order that the LORD gave them to Moses.

Even if hip-hop is not your usual favorite genre, I encourage you to check out this album and others like it. The genre lends itself particularly well to exposition, as it allows for many more words than most song forms. And if you think you don't like hip-hop, I'm convinced that the more you listen to it, the more it will grow on you! I'm also thankful for Shai Linne's clarity of articulation: I can understand every word he says... which is not always the case among rappers!

The theme used to summarize this album was "Do You Know Him?" I can think of few better ways to get to know "the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom [He has] sent" (John 17:3) than listening to "The Attributes of God".

Soli Deo Gloria

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Theology, Great Rhymes February 18, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
If I'm going to review a rap album, I should probably come clean up front: I'm a white guy in my mid-thirties, which means I probably don't have much credibility when it comes to analyzing rap or hip-hop. However, I will also say that I've had a long running closet fascination with rap music, and I own more rap CD's than I would want to admit to my friends. I also haven't liked admitting it to my church, because I've always thought that the best rap came from some of the most secular artists. I'm happy to say that has now changed!

In my opinion, Shai Linne is not just the best Christian rapper, but one of the best rappers period. He is the first Christian rap artist I have found who does not let me down lyrically, stylistically, or both. His lyrics are substantial, his rhymes intricate and multi-faceted, his alliteration alluring, and his theology impeccable. I feel like I am back in seminary listening to his music, because the theology is deep and hard hitting. And yet I can listen to it again and again, and each time through appreciate a different aspect of how the song is put together poetically and rhythmically.

The most impressive feat, by far, on this album, is that every song is radically Christ-centered. Each track focuses on a different aspect of the character of God, and every single one relates its attribute to the work of Christ on the cross on our behalf. This would seem easy with a track about God's love, but he does the same thing with the tracks about his wrath, justice, faithfulness, jealously, etc. I highly commend this album to both your ears and your soul.
