In fact, Alex is a very unsympathetic character.
Did she, after a triumphant first novel - which I have not read - a first novel that won awards, praise, respect, did she then not know where to go with her next book?
Anytime I felt just a little bit of excitement and turned the page to read on, it just started to get really boring again.
