More About the Author

About
Anne Angelone is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist who complements her practice of Chinese Medicine with Functional Medicine and Paleo Nutrition to effectively treat patients suffering from autoimmune disease. For more than twenty years, Anne has been using a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutrition to reverse chronic digestion, skin and autoimmune reactions to dramatically improve the health of her patients. In addition to operating her practice, Anne has served as an Acupuncture College instructor and as an Acupuncturist and Herbalist at The Immune Enhancement Project, an Acupuncture and Natural Medicine center dedicated to helping patients suffering from autoimmune disease. Anne is also the author of four e-books, including The Autoimmune Paleo Breakthrough.

Background & Training

Anne first became interested in Chinese Medicine and received her first acupuncture treatments during a year in Taiwan that she spent after studying Chinese language and Human Development at Cornell University. She later decided to pursue a Master's Degree in Chinese Medicine due in large part to her personal experience with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), which is a result of inflammation from chronic autoimmune reactions in the joints and eyes.

Rather than simply wanting to treat the symptoms of her condition, Anne became deeply interested in detecting and treating the root cause of the disease. This, in turn, led her down the path of studying Functional Medicine, Nutrigenomics, and Paleo Nutrition to go along with her work in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. Functional Medicine utilizes the latest laboratory testing to uncover the underlying cause of disease. Nutrigenomics is the science of how food "speaks" to our genes. And Paleo Nutrition offers the most effective dietary template for halting chronic disease.

Anne's study of Functional Medicine included advanced training with Dr. Datis Kharrazian, one of the field's leading practitioners. Specific coursework with Dr. Kharrazian included: Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis, Mastering the Thyroid, Neurotransmitters and the Brain, Functional Endocrinology, Gluten Sensitivity, Leaky Gut and Autoimmunity, Neuroendocrine Immunology of Environmental Triggers.

Philosophy & Approach

Today, Anne is grateful for the opportunity to share her extensive learning and experience to help others dramatically alter the course of their autoimmune disease. Anne works closely with her patients to help them understand and overcome their condition. Depending on the patient's symptoms, Anne may also recommend advanced laboratory tests for gluten and/or other food sensitivities, GI imbalances, adrenal and blood sugar imbalances, hypothyroid, autoimmune thyroid, anemia, small intestine bacterial overgrowth, leaky gut, hidden infections and methylation defects.

As a crucial component of combatting autoimmune disease, Anne applies a tailored version of the Paleo diet to treat her patients. She has found that the use of a personalized diet, in combination with Natural Medicine and Functional Medicine practices, contributes to a marked reduction in autoimmune reactions.

It is Anne's hope--and indeed her mission in life--to share information so that her patients can more fully understand and more effectively overcome the "chronic symptoms" of their autoimmune condition. Through her proven method of diagnosis and treatment, Anne has helped countless patients achieve greater health, including many who've suffered from years of undetected or misdiagnosed autoimmune-related disease.

Education

Master's of Science. The American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Bachelor's of Science. Cornell University.

e-Books

Anne's e-books are available in print through CreateSpace, and as e-books via these platforms: Amazon Kindle, Amazon reader for browsers, Nook and iBooks.

I really wish I could get my money back.

MORE DETAIL: Since the book was so concise (which I believe was the author's plan all along), she didn't go into detail on these technical terms.

The reviews on this book didn't help me much...People either absolutely love it or absolutely hate it. So I went ahead and bought the book and now I can give a middle-of-the-road review that will hopefully help others. There are three positive things and three negative things that stood out to me.

PROS:
1) LENGTH: It is VERY short! You could read the whole thing in a day's time if not quicker.
2) CONCISE (more like a handbook): In addition to being short, the author keeps things extremely concise, more like a handbook than an actual detailed plan. For this reason, it seemed to be a disappointment to many who reviewed the book and gave a low rating. Keeping that in mind, I consider this pro also a con (#2).
3) RECIPES: The author provides quite a few yummy-sounding recipes! I personally plan to try most of these recipes.

CONS:
1) TOO MANY TECHNICAL TERMS (hard to understand): There are A LOT of technical terms. For this reason, the first several chapters of the book were WAAAAY over my head. I had to read each chapter several times and look up terms she was mentioning on Google in order for me to fully understand what she was talking about.
2) MORE DETAIL: Since the book was so concise (which I believe was the author's plan all along), she didn't go into detail on these technical terms. I personally would have liked to read more about these terms in a way that people who are not a part of the medical profession (like myself) can understand. This con is also a pro (#2) because of the conciseness of the book...It just left me asking a lot of questions, so I wished there was a bit more.
3) WHERE'S THE PLAN?! So when I purchased this book, I expected it to lay out exactly what a person suffering from an autoimmune condition should do.

A great read. Concise and informative. This book covers the gamut from explaining how and why develop autoimmune diseases to what we can do to heal ourselves. The healing process includes advice and information on supplements, foods and recipes, detoxing recipes for broth and bath, stress reduction... etc. Take a look at the table of contents! Highly recommend!

Upon reading the reviews, I thought this book would be more informative as far as letting me know what foods to eat, and how to get started with this plan. It did not give a shopping list, or a weekly plan. I really wish I could get my money back.

The idea that we unintentionally eat foods that are damaging us is an uncomfortable one. According to the American Autoimmune Related Disease Association (as quoted in this book), there are over 50,000,000 Americans who suffer from at least one autoimmune disease and many more who have symptoms of an autoimmune disease without, as yet, any GI destruction. Since four-fifths of our immune systems are located in the gut, digestive health is important. The goal of this book is to encourage readers to increase anti-inflammatory and probiotic foods while reducing or eliminating foods that cause a low grade inflammatory response, irritate the gut lining, or nurture harmful gut bacteria. It succeeds admirably. If you have an open mind and a serious interest in this topic, I heartily recommend this book.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Hashimoto's Thyroid. I purchased this book to learn more about the connection between diet and autoimmune disease and hopefully get some good recipes. I read the reviews stating how technical the book's jargon can be. As a healthcare provider I figured I'd be fine. I was wrong. There are lots of technical terms, acronyms, and jargon in this book that do not add anything to the message. There are recipes, but as another reviewer pointed out, there's no set plan for those recipes. It's just a book with a lot of terms poorly explained, then lists of foods you can and can't eat (mostly foods you can't), and then recipes. In place of this book I recommend "The Plan" by Lyn-Genet Recitas. She is a dietitian who developed a program to detox your diet to the most basic of foods then systematically teach you how to add foods to determine your own body's sensitivity. She lays out a 21-day meal plan and how to continue on with The Plan after 21 days. Even if you don't do the meal plan, the information in her book is easy to read and comprehend. The Plan: Eliminate the Surprising "Healthy" Foods That Are Making You Fat--and Lose Weight Fast
