British TV spies Emma Peel and John Steed have always conjured images of saucy sophistication, so the musical accompaniment to their film debut should be equally debonair. Marius deVries sets the first appropriate note, with an updated Avengers theme that combines strings with beats. Grace Jones and the Radio Science Orchestra tackle the picture's meteorological bent with the sultry "Storm," an epic, Bond-worthy theme. Sadly, after the groovy "Many Weathers Apart" by Merz, The Avengers soundtrack tosses together oh-so-usual bits of ska (Suggs from Madness), alternative rock (Dishwalla) and "electronica" (Roni Size) that fail to set the mood. The anticipated Ashtar Command tracks, one featuring ex-Veruca Salt singer Louise Post; the other, Sinead O'Connor, are little more than novelty collaborations. Individually, each Avengers track delivers, but the Verve Pipe's mediocre "Blow You Away" proves that they should have called in some swinging Brits like Pulp or Suede for this mission. --Liisa Ladouceur

If you are expecting the Soundtrack from the movie, this aint it! This is another dreadfull "The Album" deals. While Grace Jones track is pretty good. They can have the rest of "The Album". Most of the "Music" on The Album is from the credits at the end not the film its self. Mrs Peel we're needed.

The failed AVENGERS movie from 1998 that starred Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman was an emotional and audio dud, and a last-minute soundtrack switch could be part of its failure. Instead of using this brilliant soundtrack -- which evokes the film with every track -- the producers decided on a last-minute switch to an orchestral track resembling the original TV show.

This soundtrack features tracks by Grace Jones, Merz, Annie Lennox, Utah Saints, and others. The sounds are perfectly fitted to the film, and 15 years later it is still fantastic.

This is a great CD to listen. You can feel the songs come alive in your heart. Some songs are nice to dance to and others will be fun for reading or other activities.

For some reason, your listing above claims track 4 is something by Iggy Pop -- it isn't. It's "I AM" by Suggs. It's the perfect song to listen to, on the road or while serving ice cream to a chihuahua. That's what I do.

and what makes it worse is that they could have included "I'm In Love With Emma Peel" by The Allies, a great bit of pop music, and failed to do so. Bleagh!
