Editorial Reviews

Review

Praise for The Avergae American Male: “An appalling book we couldn’t put down.” (Penthouse)

Praise for The Average American Male: “Since its publication in 2007, [Average American Male] has become an unofficial, if somewhat undercover bible for a certain strain of Xbox-playing, Maxim-collecting Gen Y males.” (New York Times)

“’50 Shades of Grey’ for the 30-something male. It is crass, lewd and politically incorrect, but also mindlessly fun and engaging.” (Associated Press)

“Chad Kultgen is the epitome of everything that is lewd in this world.” (Westword, Denver CO )

From the Back Cover

In the beginning, there was The Average American Male.

Maxim called it "pure filth."

Even Penthouse called it "appalling."

The New York Times called it "the literary love child of Neil LaBute, Judy Blume, and Eminem."

Now, Chad Kultgen's unforgettable antihero is back—this time as a married man.

I can feel something hot twisting and burning in the pit of my stomach. For a fleeting moment I think back to a time when I was with Casey, my girlfriend before Alyna....I tried to initiate something by grabbing her tit and kissing her when we walked through her front door. She turned to me and said something about how our relationship didn't always have to be about sex. I remember how much I wanted to smash something when she said that, how much I wanted to scream in her face that our relationship was only about sex....Relationships between men and women are only about sex. The rest of the sh*t is incidental.

Welcome back.

This was my favorite of the 4 Chad K. books I have read.

I have loved every novel Chad Kultgen has written, starting with The Average American Male.

If you are living a life like the protagonist, it will ring painfully true.

I must say this was a fun read, yet have to contest.
Been HAPPILY married for many years and can say not even close to true.
Great pace good imagination same Kultgen ending....Almost like he is bored of the book he is writing and shuts it down.

Loved it! A very real look into average family lives. Interesting it's written by a single guy though. Insightful, an fun.

I thought the lead character was a whiner. Did someone put a gun to your head and force you to get married and have kids? Your life is what you make of it and maybe taking some personal responsibility for that is necessary.

If he couldn't even communicate to his wife that he didn't like a certain restaurant, then how did he expect to maintain a healthy relationship?

“Average” American marriage….immature American marriage sounds far more likely.

Being a wife, I enjoyed this male perspective of marriage, which, sadly, I think might be frighteningly accurate. It also offers interesting thoughts on what young people today think a romantic relationship consists of. However, the author appears to be unmarried and therefore might not fully appreciate the feelings of connectedness that being a part of a family can provide. Also, if he waits a few years when his libido declines, he might find a relationship with a woman with whom he shares some intellectual compatibility to be just as rewarding as 60 seconds of great sex with a tuned out, pre-adult slut.

Very simplistic story about marriage from someone looking through living room windows in the suburbs on their way back to the single city life. Still enjoyable, somewhat insightful, but makes husbands out to be disgusting pigs who only think with their dicks. If you keep in mind that it is one person's perspective on marriage and affairs and is meant to be entertaining rather than anything one should read to much into.

If you liked Kultgen's other books, you'll also enjoy this. But the story was a bit too predictable, lacked the shock value his other books have.

This book is simply ridiculous, and it's important to remember that it is all in the name of getting you to laugh. I've read all of this author's books and this is probably second best next to "The Average American Male" There is a lot of truth in what he writes so I wouldn't let your wife read it or she will be questioning your every move. If you want a laugh it is absolutely worth it. Took me a 4 hour plan ride to read the whole thing so don't buy it if you want a long read. If you haven't read the first book do yourself a favor and get both.

Amazingly funny. Chad is so honest and accurate with his novels. This one is a great one to read if you work in an office. I read it while at the office. It makes your day MUCH more entertaining as you look around and find similarities to Chad's characters.
