About the Author

Nicholas Trandahl lives in northeast Wyoming with his girlfriend and two daughters where he works as a staff writer for a newspaper. A very active poet and writer, Nicholas was previously a soldier in the U.S. Army working in Missile Defense, but he returned home to Wyoming to pursue his passion of writing. The realms of fantasy and magic have been a feature of his stories ever since his first reading of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien as a young boy.

A must read for anyone who reads fantasy.

On the plus side, there were typos, but they were few, and overall the grammar was correct.

There are some great twists throughout the story.

I bought and read this book in the one afternoon. It was a good fantasy read.

I know a previous reviewer has stated they didn't like the middle to the end part of the book, but I would like to add, that one must look at things from the characters perspective. He is the first wizard in a 1000 years, he doesn't know what he is capable of, and has no-one to teach him. He is a young man, doing what he can to try and help the world from totally falling under the spell of darkness.

I quite enjoyed this book, and eagerly await the next book in the series. It certainly didn't end in quite the same manner as general fantasy books, but can't say too much else without spoilers.

But to build on my statement above, this book is about a young man, finding his way in life, finding out along the way that he is the first wizard in a 1000 years. The last wizard to exist had taken control of the land and was a tyrant. The world has recovered from those times, but the darkness from those times, has been awoken with the young wizards growing powers.

The main character finds his way across the world, and does what he feels that he needs to, in order to prevent the rise of darkness across the lands once more.

For anyone looking for a book to curl up with for the afternoon or night, this is it. Definitely give it a try!

I would recommend this book to any fans of fantasy. It is a quick read. If anything it went too fast. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wanted to see the land of the three baronies fleshed out a little more. There are some great twists throughout the story.

I received this book as a gift and I must say, I was rather hooked when I first read it. I love the characters and the wording was so good it ran like a movie in my mind.

When I read this Tolkien came to mind. Very good read. Perfect for anyone who likes fantasy in my opinion.

More About the Author

Nicholas Trandahl lives in Wyoming, writes for a newspaper, has two daughters and is engaged to be married.
He's been writing stories and reading them for as long as he can remember, but it wasn't until 2011 when his first poems were published by Swyers Publishing out of Georgia in an anthology called 'Making Waves: A Book of Little Known Poetry'. In 2012 he went on to have his debut novel published by Swyers Publishing, a fantasy novel called 'The Azure Wizard: A Legend of the Fallen Baronies'.
Early in 2013, Swyers Publishing also published Nicholas' complete collection of poetry called 'Lost Yellow'. 'Lost Yellow' was largely written during his time in the US Army and largely catalogs his struggles with depression and mental illness.
The publishing of his poetry and a new-found interest in literature and classics from the likes of Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Virginia Woolf quickly and completely shifted Nicholas' taste in reading and writing fiction from his prior realms of fantasy to character-driven literary fiction.
In late 2013, Swyers Publishing approved the publication of 'Clark's Turning Leaf', Nicholas' most important work to date and his first foray into contemporary literary fiction. 'Clark's Turning Leaf' appeared on shelves in January 2014.
Nicholas' most ambitious novel yet, a contemporary drama entitled 'An Uncomfortable Life', has been approved by Swyers Publishing and is scheduled for a fall/winter 2014 release.
Currently, Nicholas is hard at work on his latest novel and writing poetry.
