Book Description

August 2, 2011
WE’RE KNEE DEEP— ARE YOU SHOVEL READY?

Politicians who say anything and do nothing . . . People lamenting Constitutional rights they don’t have . . . Protesters equating everyone to Hitler . . . Teeth-gritting partisans! Tax-evading congressmen! Fact-evading Americans! If you’re incredibly disenchanted, if you feel that this great country of ours is suffering from chronic bullsh*t at the federal, state, and local levels, good news: Not only are you in good company, but here’s a book to make you feel a little bit better—

THE B. S. OF A.!

Whether you voted for “hope” in 2008, or “change” in 2010, odds are you’re feeling a tad despondent. Here at last is a straight-talking, partisan-busting look at politics from humorist Brian Sack, who mercilessly pokes fun at The B.S. of A. with a double helping of objectivity and wit, pulling no punches and giving partisans, politicians, and their politics a well-deserved shellacking.

The B.S. of A. takes full advantage of our poorly understood First Amendment to fearlessly cut through the bull on both sides of the aisle and ask serious questions: Why does this enormous country have only two real parties? How does a bad idea become a terrible law with a misleading name? How can you identify the Seven Habits of Highly Partisan People? What’s the deal with this Constitution thing people keep citing? Can we stop comparing people we don’t like to Hitler?

You’ll find a handy glossary to thoroughly expand your political vocabulary. And, perhaps most important, you’re guaranteed to finish this book with a complete understanding of how to solve America’s biggest issues—including gun control and abortion!*

The B.S. of A.: You’re in it, so get to know it.

*Actually, these issues can’t be solved. Their complexity was misunderestimated.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

My fellow Americans,

I wrote a book about politics sucking. Little did I know that the book would come out literally minutes after the debt ceiling debacle which made Americans from across the political spectrum realize that politics and politicians suck. Bad.

Now everyone is miserable. It's perfect timing for this book, really. Great job Congress!

From the Back Cover

"Brian Sack's deft skewering of our nation's nonsense will have them rolling in--and on both sides of--the aisles."
Chris Regan - Emmy award winning writer, The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart, author Mass Historia: 365 Days of Historical Facts and (Mostly) Fictions.

"I thought Brian Sack only picked on me, so it's nice to see he also has issues with Democrats, Republicans, and partisan hacks."
Glenn Beck - NYT bestselling author and political lightning rod.

"The funniest book about politics that I've ever read. And I love the group nudie shots of the entire 112th Congress!"
Mike Sacks, author of And Here's the Kicker; SEX: Our Bodies, Our Junk and Your Wildest Dreams, Within Reason.

More About the Author

Brian Sack has written humor for Radar, The Independent, CRACKED, Radar, Glamour and McSweeney's Internet Tendency. His work appears in the Best of McSweeney's compilation Created In Darkness By Troubled Americans (Vintage, 2005).

Sack and musician John Mayer collaborated on a comedy short titled The Paul Reddy Show. Sack's clueless "Paul Reddy" character was based on PBS mainstay Charlie Rose and peppers Mayer with outlandish and often absurd questions. He has also appeared in numerous commercials and audiobooks as well as the video game Grand Theft Auto IV.

His first book, "In the Event of My Untimely Demise" (HarperCollins, 2008) was a collection of humorous essays for his son.

In July 2011 the GBTV network announced that Sack would be hosting "The B.S. of A." a show based on his second book "The B.S. of A. - A Primer in Politics for the Incredibly Disenchanted." (Simon & Schuster, 2011) In an interview Sack claimed the show would be nonpartisan and objective due to his "complete indifference to politicians and political parties."

Brian Sack has a warped sense of humour, which I like. This book holds no punches with either political party, and is right on the mark. I hope Brian Sack keeps writing, as I enjoy his books alot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Czar of B S of A August 21, 2011

Brian made me think about partisanship, I like to think I'am an open minded independent, but there are times that I get defencive over my beliefs. I do not yell, of raise my voice, but I can feel my blood pressure go up. I wish a friend of mine could say the same. I hope she reads this book, through humor she might see the folly of arguing with everyone who doesn't see it her way, like Brian says, you have to walk on egg shells around this person. One thing I wish the kindle version would have had voice enabled.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sack of **** never smelled so good. August 4, 2011
Format:Hardcover
In a sea of partisan books that serve only to reinforce already-held beliefs, this one steps outside of things to talk about the phenomenon and workings of our government - a real boon to folks seeking some understanding of the bizarro world that is U.S. politics. I really feel for those who are embarking on their political journey but must travel, book by book, down many biased alleys, only to discover, hey, this isn't the way, and what a phoney this one turned out to be. This book might help you see the big picture and how we align our values with the political machinery. It also might prevent many from investing too much psychic energy into that class of (generally speaking) sub-humans we call politicians. And it's all wrapped in humor and realism, which really makes the subject matter go down easy.

BTW, Brian Sack is a funny guy. You can catch him on GBTV.com. His squirting flower is a riot.
