Book Description

The Bitch-Proof Suit is a light-hearted and exciting romance set in Dublin and New York.

It is the first novel in the series.

Other books in the series include:
The Bitch-Proof Bride - sequel novel to The Bitch-Proof Suit.
The Bitch-Proof Romance - prequel novella to The Bitch-Proof Suit.

When Blue (Bluebell) Byrne is up against the odds in the world of New York fashion marketing, she needs the ultimate in accessories - a bitch-proof suit. Her marketing experience has helped her create the perfect suit. She had it made by bespoke tailors, cut with twice the precision at half the price. No labels, no trends, just sheer cutting edge class.

Story:

The story starts in Manhattan. Blue is about to put her suit to the ultimate test when she vies against a boardroom full of conniving business rivals to win the top job assignment - to work in the company's office in Dublin, Ireland, and settle a few scores at the same time.

The suit, her negotiating skills and gutsy determination helps Blue win the job. Within hours she sets off for Dublin. It's the one place she swore she'd never go back to. Six years ago she'd left that city behind, along with Morgan Daire, the man who broke her heart, sure she'd never return. It had almost destroyed her once, but hell...she loves a challenge!

She'll be working with the glamorous and influential Verde Valmont, and Verde's Irish assistant Emer. Blue will also be facing up to the formidable Dubliner, Morgan Daire, the man whose past is romantically linked with hers. Then there's her friend, Dublin designer, Murphy, an incorrigible rogue whose flirting causes jealousy and all sorts of trouble. She also encounters the sexy and handsome Sears Pearson, a New York coolhunter, who takes an interest in her. With Morgan and Sears vying for her attention, and Murphy causing misunderstandings, her love life is anything but smooth.

This is a sparkling novel, brimming with romance, humour, friendship, rivalry, Irish cocktails and scandalous behaviour.

Note:
The Bitch-Proof Suit did actually exist. The author, De-ann Black, designed and wore it several years ago when living and working in Dublin, and it served its purpose brilliantly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! October 18, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The idea of a "bitch-proof suit" immediately gained my attention and perked my interest in reading this book. What I found was a great suit and a wonderful fairy tale of a love story. I can't wait to read the Bitch-Proof Bride and see what continues to happen in Blue Bell's life. I would love to be able to have my own version of the suit as all of us women need a suit like Blue's, that can shield us from derogatory, bitchy comments. Great book. Quick read and I highly recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow start April 3, 2011

This book started off slow for me, but eventually became more interesting about 1/3 of the way in. It was a nice mix of romance and comedy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Proof that I'm a bitch May 26, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I made the terrible mistake of loading this book on my iPad before a long flight. Omg. After a few pages, I was beginning to feel the horrible desperation of the avid reader WITHOUT A BOOK. Because, my friends, this is not a book. Certainly not a proper book with a beginning, an end, some degree of character development, and a story arc. It is a dreadful mish-mash of cliches and utterly unrealistic events. There are also a lot of misspelled words (pet peeve of mine). Here's how I knew almost immediately this book would not really be about fashion. Her "Bitch-proof suit" is described as having an A-line skirt. The last time I saw anyone wearing an A-line skirt was in the seventies. This book is embarrassingly awful. And I wasn't looking for literature, just a fun read to pass the time.

However, my huge issue with books of this sort is this; who are the people writing the glowing reviews? Because after reading the reviews, and then actually reading this book means I simply cannot trust Amazon reviews. There is no way an actual reader could find this book to be anything but dreadful and amateurish. IMHO.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Romance, or Plot May 24, 2011
By cupcake
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a disappointment! The writing was amateurish. I like to read books by authors who are clearly smarter than me. The spelling and grammatical errors were a real turn-off. "Daring do" for "derring-do" and "loose" for "lose" to name just two. There was absolutely no character development for the men in the story. No romantic relationship was ever developed between the main characters. Don't waste your time.

1.0 out of 5 stars I just couldn't care about the characters June 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really tried to enjoy this book but I realised by about half way through that I just didn't care about the characters at all. I persevered and finished the book but it did not get any better. I felt like was just filling in time waiting for it to end. I found the writing style 'clunky'. Awkward turns of phrase and use of more formal language (eg. characters turned on a 'laptop computer' rather than simply a 'laptop') and stating the obvious about how a character was feeling rather than allowing the writing and character development to let you work it out by yourself distracted from an OK story line.

I rarely write reviews but if you were like me and not sure whether to buy this book then I would say don't. Even at this price it is not worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book May 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was really worried that I wouldn't like this book. To me the story started off slow in the beginning but then quickly picked up the pace. I loved Blue's story and was quickly intrigued with her and her story. This is a laugh out loud book that I found very hard to put down.

2.0 out of 5 stars I was expecting better.... June 27, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book just didn't wow me. How can she be a future fashion hunter yet wear the same thing all of the time in different colors? It didn't even sound all of that fashionable when she described this "bitch proof suit". Why was it given such a mythical description when it really seems like a basic grey suit? And she kept having people look at it like oh my there's just something there, something about it...I thought we'd find out it was sewn by a witch with a spell cast on it by the way she was making it sound when really it's just a well tailored suit...and what was the secret of it? she TOLD everyone that she was going to a bespoke tailor to get the suit done so they knew it was specially made to fit her yet she made it seem like there was some great secret about it.

the romance wasn't developed in the least bit. There really was no reason for the main characters to not just get together.

*spoiler alert* The only hindrance to their relationship was that she thought he stole her ideas but they were really his ideas to begin with (wait, how does that even happen? did she steal HIS ideas then? i'm confused) so why did it take her storming out and 6 years to figure out it was a misunderstanding? as soon as she returned to dublin, they resolve it literally in one conversation "oh, those were my ideas....oh they were? darn...okay" so...why didn't they just get together then? obviously they both wanted one another and there was no real actual conflict other than she'd run off for no reason whatsoever the first time. She kept agonizing over if he still wanted her when DUH of course he did and made it obvious yet she kept hesitating. I really didn't like this chick.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful August 5, 2011
By Kimmer
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
99 cents was too much for this book. I like chick-lit, but this book was horrible. I think my IQ went down 20 points after reading it. The story was predictable and silly (all major female characters had "colorful" names). It embarrassed me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Enough with the suit
I felt like the author was over-explaining scenes in order to create the story. Lots of fluff and not a lot of reality.

Good summer beach read. Doesn't have much depth to the story but what do you expect for 99cents. Again good summer read though.
