I was disappointed in this book because it adds little new to the author's prior book, Body Ecology Diet, which contains invaluable recipes plus all the key concepts found here. There have been new studies which support many of Donna's recommendations which are found in this and her earlier book. However, as Donna says in her first book,"We're proud of our recipes," which I think are the best part of her original book. I'd suggest getting the original book first, which really is all you need.

Although it is my parents who fall into the baby boomer generation more so than my husband and I do...I think this is a "must read" for everyone.... especially people commited to living a vibrant and joyful life.

Health through foods and herbs has always interested me.

I have been a vegetarian since I was around 17yrs old, then later became a vegan and finally I became a raw vegan for the last three years as I sought relief from chronic back and neck pain (from a serious accident)-doctors stated I could only be "cured" via surgery-but switching to raw foods relieved the pain that for 2 years kept me awake at night and made it painful to simply go through my day.

However, although being a raw vegan resolved the pain , it left me cold in the winters and my digestive system a mess. I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue and had digestive problems which doctors could not quite 'figure out' (IBS, pcos, Celiac disease, Enzyme deficency... you name it- they were all mentioned by doctors)-I went in every direction to get relief: from the traditional to homeopathy to acupuncture, Ayudervic, craniosacral therapy, EFT, Reiki, hypnotherapy. I tried everything. I think many of these modalities helped, but I saw a significant improvement in both my digestion and my energy level once I began to introduce certain foods and food combinations as suggested by Dona. What a blessing she and her team are!

Following Dona's advice on the bodyecology website helped convince me to try a different modality for healing and feeling better thus I was thrilled to buy this book when it came out-I read it in two days!

It is full of valuable information, written with clarity and well constructed, I found it to be an absolutely engaging and easy read.

Though I have read several hundred nutrition and diet books (even wrote two myself), I found myself highlighting something in this book on nearly every page. The big takeaway for me is the importance of fermented foods. Sure, I already make raw sauerkraut and I drink my homemade raw kombucha brew daily. But I didn't realize how much these were contributing to my health. Author Donna Gates even believes adding the sour taste of fermented foods cuts back cravings for sugar and carbs, a great defense against the obesity epidemic! She lists 13 benefits of fermented foods starting on page 157, and claims it has even cured autism in some cases!

This book is a great reference guide, definitely a keeper. It lists and describes all the theories of why we age. It explains the unique health issues we boomers face, and how we were guinea pigs in so many ways in the experiments of fast foods, big pharma, drug-sex-n-rock-n-roll, etc. It contains a critique of many common diets, such as vegetarian, and even raw foods. (OK, I didn't agree with everything she said there, though I must confess I am one of the people she might refer to when she says that many raw food leaders admit to no longer eating 100% raw vegan!) Donna even devotes an entire chapter to what kind of water is most healthful, as well as a chapter on anti-aging therapies.

There is a most interesting chapter on protein in which she tackles the controversial issue of how much and what kinds. She arrives at the same conclusion I did years ago, which is that we need .8 grams per kilogram of body weight. In other words, a 121 lb. woman such as myself needs about 44 grams a day, much more than I consumed as a raw vegan, but much less than the average American eats.

I work in an industry that is very fast paced with extremely long hours. There is really no time for being sick. These eating principles really help to keep out toxins, and provide a general sense of strength and mental clarity. As a previous fan of the Body Ecology diet, I had to get this to see what else Donna Gates had to say. The Baby Boomer Diet basically takes off where the BED ended and suggests new herbs/supplements/products. I actually got to see her speak a few months back and her knowledge of health and longevity is pretty endless.... seriously you can ask her about any food or drink, and she'll say yay or nay, and more importantly why.

This book looks great on the surface, but after reading quite a bit of it, I found that it really lacks substance. Not much in the how to department. For instance, it talks about fermented vegetables, but does not say how to ferment your vegetables. It does have a recipe for fermenting juice, but that is not the same thing. Really rather disappointing overall.

I have not finished the book, so I only gave it 4 stars so far. It is a good book that is easy to read and understand. I am not a Baby Boomer. However, why turn down good advice since I will reach these ages eventually. Like the title says, "...for Every Generation."

I think a lot of us have learned bad eating habits from our families and others we have come into contact with. Microwave food, BPA in cans, over-processed foods to make them last on the shelves and in the fridge. All these things have changed our food, and in turn have changed our bodies. When you go to other countries you see them shop for a few days worth of food only. That's because they value fresh food. In America we seem to value buying as much food as possible and storing it until we need/want it. Most of the time we eat food void of any nutrients. Why? Most of us are in a store or near a store every few days. (There are some people who live far out from stores, and I know they need to stock up.)

The book helps remind us to eat in a well rounded, higher nutrient manner. The explanations are good. The doctor input is good. I understand there is a whole program for Body Ecology, but I'll finish the book before I make any further decisions.
