As documented in this 2012 Country Music Foundation Press release, Owens and Haggard were the best known personalities associated with the music originating in Bakersfield, California in the 1950s and '60s. Yet many others helped create, shape and develop that unique sound. Others involved in the stripped-down Bakersfield Sound - Bob Wills, Bill Woods, Ralph Mooney, Paul Bigsby, Ken Nelson, Bonnie Owens, Wynn Stewart, Fuzzy Owen, Lew Talley and others - are all given their due.
The book is illustrated with rare b&w and color photographs, posters and memorabilia that capture the flavor and spirit of the Bakersfield scene.
Country music fans will enjoy this tribute to those long-ago musicians, producers, songwriters and businessmen who helped create great music in that seminal town in the San Joaquin Valley. Highly recommended.
