5.0 out of 5 stars Bluesy Southern Rock Track About the Wonder of Discovering a Passion for Music, November 1, 2011
This review is from: The Ballad Of Curtis Loew (MP3 Download)
I've called southern rock, "country lyrics with rock instrumentals sung as the blues." The Ballad of Curtis Loew is very heavy on the blues. It's probably my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song for that reason alone, but it's a very different song from their more guitar solo driven, rock and roll stand-bys.

It's a story at the heart of the birth of modern American music--an old black man sharing his music with a young white boy (much as Tee-Tot Payne did with Hank Williams, Sr.). Lynyrd Skynyrd really captures the kind of joy and passion only a kid can have for something (I used to get up at 5am every morning at that age to re-kindle the wood stove; I still love wood stoves and starting fires, but I'm not about to get up at 5am every morning for that sole purpose).
