Book Description

New Adult Contemporary Romance. Due to the mature subject matter recommended for 18+

I travel through life dancing.

All I ever wanted to do was dance, as did my best friend. We'd made so many plans together, but one night an explosion changed it all. Only one of us survived, and I promised myself I'd succeed for us both. And I did, until an accident almost ruined my career, but Maze came back into my life when I needed him most. He pulled me out of the depths of my despair. But could I save him now?

I travel through life fighting.

It had always been Ivy; from the first moment I saw her leaping through the air like she had wings to lift her from the ground. But she was my dream, something I wanted more than anything else in my life. I promised myself I would stay away from her. Violence followed me everywhere and I tried to keep her far away from it. She was my point of illumination in the dark tumultuous world I lived in. But I could not stay away from her. Not when I knew she needed me. As much as I needed her. But could she accept me as I am?

3.0 out of 5 stars Just okay. July 8, 2013
By Bella
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story of Ivy and Maze was quite average. I was really hoping for a great story based on the other reviews but I feel let down! This was boy meets girl but lets make them a dancer and fighter. To me its just very generic with no lasting impression. Not a bad read but don't expect a die for romance. The good thing was the author had an editor so the mistakes were minimal. Eventhough, I would think twice about reading the next book in the series as this one was just okay.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Ballerina & The Fighter, I really enjoyed this book. I read a lot of I /R romances and this is by far one of the best. It's a really good plot and the main characters were really good. I look forward to the next book can't wait see what's going on with Maze & Ivy. Write fast Ms. Sinclair your fans await you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The rhythm of the dance July 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I don't think the dance world and that of an MMA fighter is all that different. It'a all about rhythm, movement and footwork. I would have liked more fight scenes, especially more narration about the blade fighting. Looking forward to the continuation of Maze and Ivy's story, and maybe even more about Dante.

3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read, you should meet Maze he is hot! September 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
3.5 Stars

*****I received ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.****

Okay I will have to be honest with one of the main reasons I wanted to read this book was simply because of Maze. I have a weakness for hot sexy fighters in any form, and Maze being a Mixed Martial Arts fighter then I knew I would have to read this one. ;)

Maze and Ivy first meet when they are teenagers, they are instantly attracted to each other, and end up having a whirlwind summer romance, at the end of the summer Maze, and Ivy they go their separate ways Maze is leaving for Japan to continue his training and Ivy is off to college. They never forget each other, but life gets in the way, and they keep in touch with the odd text here and there.

"But in my heart, I knew we were each headed in different directions, whatever we might have been.... Well just wasn't meant to be" ~ Ivy

Fast forward five years and back in the US for one last fight Maze contacts Ivy and it's pretty clear when they meet that the feelings, and the chemistry that they have for each other is still there.

"But electricity zing between us again, my gaze went from our joined hands to stare into the burning gaze of Maze. The connection was still there, flaring between us, and he felt it too."~ Ivy

"I had to see her. Feel her near me again. Now it was so much worse that I'd imagined. I never wanted to let her go again. All these years, yeah I'd been living my life, going through the motions, but an important me wasn't there. She'd held on to it. " ~ Maze

Picking up where they off, felt that the natural thing to do, but the darker side of Maze's fighting means that their relationship does not run smoothly.

Ivy is beautiful, sweet and very talented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! July 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a solid contemp romance with suspense. I love how she ended this book...damn. I just hope we are not waiting too long for the sequel. Please don't do that. I have a few of this author's previous books and they were...alright. Nothing to rave about. They entertained me for that moment but didn't stick. This is heads above those books, the story, how she told it from the H/h point of view by chapter, GREAT. If you are deciding whether or not to purchase, I say purchase and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Page Turner July 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Wow really good read from the start to finish. I really didn't know what to expect going in, and didn't realize this was an IRR so I was pleasantly surprised upon realizing it was. Ivy and Maze had such a passionate romance even as teenagers. I could feel the connection between these two jumping off the pages from their very first meeting on the beach. This has the making to be a great series and I am anxious to see what happens with these two next.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Start to the New Adult Genre February 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a good story overall. New Adult has yet to grow on me because of the whole "good girl/bad boy" trope and serious lack of diversity, but The Ballerina & the Fighter had enough depth to draw me in and keep me emotionally invested in at least some of the characters, certainly enough to read the sequel.

Ivy and Maze meet one summer and of course, romance happens. Tragedy also happens as Ivy loses her best friend Shelly in a drunk driving accident. Maze and Ivy move on with their perspective lives--his in the uber-violent world of underground mixed martial arts and the Asian underworld, hers ad a primary ballerina in New York. Five years later fate (and a fight) bring them together again.

Ursula Sinclair writes incredible fight and dance scenes. Interestingly enough, there's not much difference between the two. She has a wonderful narrative style which flows and draws you into the story, though there are times where there's more "tell" than "show". She also infuses her secondary characters with depth. They're not just window dressing. I absolutely LOVED Dante, Ivy's dance partner and roommate. He deserves his own story for being incredibly loyal in spite of unrequited love.

It is vitally important to me as a woman reader that I embrace the heroine just as much as I do the hero. I want my heroines to be as dynamic and fully-actualized as the hero. Unfortunately, Ivy failed to live up to this. Granted she moved on after Maze left for Japan. She fulfilled her dream of becoming a primary ballerina, but it felt like an afterthought, and I blame that on the brevity of this book. I wanted more Gelsey Kirkland/Suzanne Farrell/Peter Martins/George Ballanchine type struggle.

It was okay. I would have preferred the book be written in just Maze's POV. I am starting to dislike dual's POVs.

I am not going to read the sequel to this book.
