About the Artist

"Daddy rocked us to sleep with the Rolling Stones; Mama woke us up with Loretta Lynn. So we get it honest." - Kimberly Perry

Inheriting a cross-pollinated love of country and rock & roll from their parents, The Band Perry - siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil Perry - say that they bleed the bright red blood of American music. The three have always felt the drive to perform and create music, sweating out the summers in Mobile, Alabama playing in any dusty roadhouse or church that would have them. Kimberly strapped on her first Gibson - and fronted her first high school band - at age 15, employing Reid, then 10, and Neil, only 8, as her roadies. Changing guitar strings and polishing cymbals for their big sister lost its charm after awhile, so the brothers formed their own band, opening for Kimberly's band.

"My bass and I've been attached at the hip since I was 10 years old," says Reid. "While most of my friends were playing little league, I was sitting in my room learning Rolling Stones' and Beatles' bass lines. It's really all I've ever known." Even as the three worked in different bands, the siblings would spend nights at home playing together: "I remember sitting out on our front porch singing old Hank Williams and Bobbie Gentry songs in three-part harmony, hoping to channel the spirits of old country through musical séance while fighting off the southern Alabama mosquitoes," says Kimberly. "We always knew we'd take the stage together - all we were waiting on was the right moment." That moment came in July of 2005, when - after years of writing together - the siblings decided to join forces as one band. The Band Perry was then invited by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company to open all of the dates on their "New Faces Of Country" Tour that year.

In the summer of 2008, after spending a few years on the road honing their sound, TBP met longtime Garth Brooks manager Bob Doyle. Partnering with Bob and Josh Pegram, The Band Perry spent the fall and winter of 2008 writing in Nashville and collecting songs for their first country recording session.

"The three of us bring different strengths into the writing room," Neil points out. "Kimberly carries in a bag of melodies and lyrics, Reid always has some really great musical ideas in his back pocket, and I bring in a sense of humor and some thread that ties it all together."

The new recordings caught the ears of Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen, the CEO and President of Republic Nashville, signing to the new label in the summer of 2009.

When talking about The Band Perry, each member of the trio stresses how much family figures into the mix: "Reid, Neil and I share genes and a musical pedigree," Kimberly explains. "We read the same classics and cook from the same recipes. With all of our likenesses though, I believe it's our distinctions that stir up the magic when we create. When the three of us sit down to write songs together, we pull from all of our individual perspectives and happenstances to create the most interesting song concoctions."

"There's a tightness between the three of us that goes way beyond even best friends," Neil adds. "Family vocal harmonies can't be fabricated. And, besides - the three of us know that through the thick and thin of life and the music business, we're watching after each other. "

"Blood runs thick. The music business can be hard, but the three of us are committed not only to our lives in music, but to living them together," Reid says. "I think the security of knowing that about each other allows us to be uninhibited when we create. It's a democracy. It's a safe haven."

"We've walked a long way to find your ears," Kimberly Perry finishes with a grin. "So play us long and play us loud. The Band Perry is here, and we just have so darn much to say."

5.0 out of 5 stars The Band Perry is fabulous October 12, 2010
By DeeLee
Format:Audio CD
If you're tired of the same ol' country sound, you need look no further than The Band Perry to find something new. The sibling trio brings a freshness to the country music scene that I haven't truly appreciated since I first heard Jamey Johnson and Miranda Lambert. Simply put this is an incredible example of original music. The strongest track is by far one of the most sad songs released in several years. If "If I Die Young" doesn't give you goose bumps, you should probably check your pulse. It's heartwrenching. Listening to this CD will most likely make you cry, laugh and dance. To me, that's a CD worth buying! I believe The Band Perry will be around for a very long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars you NEED this one! October 30, 2010
Format:MP3 Music
This band just floored me. I mean they are absolutely jaw-dropping, consciousness-changing awesome. When I first heard "If I Die Young" I was driving to work and had to stop to compose myself - me, who scored 17 out of 80 on the empathy test. Still can't hear it without welling up.
And there's not a bad track here. Wonderful, poetic lyrics with sometimes startlingly fresh images, and yet not a four letter word to be found - are you listening, Katy Perry, etc.? "You lie like a penny in the parking lot at the grocery store", "I'm as green as the ring on my little cold finger", "Walk me by the Ferris wheel and make sure that she sees", "When I first laid eyes on you/well, the night just felt so odd/You looked at me and the stars lined up/so I thought I'd heard from God" - I could go on. Funny, sassy, thought-provoking, touching words. Kimberly has, simply, an angel's voice and flawless phrasing. They have the kind of harmonies you can only get with family. All with just-right instrumentals and appropriately driving rhythms.
Most of us have to work and practice, practice, practice to make good music. These Perrys seem to be the other sort, who have music in their DNA, or in the water. They just get it somehow. I'm glad they chose to share with the rest of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing October 20, 2010
Format:Audio CD
The Band Perry
Wow. Wow. Wow. Just wow. I haven't been this excited about a new artist for several years. I rarely buy CD's anymore because of a (usually) inferior product at an inflated price. The record companies killed the CD because of their greed and mismanagement, but I digress. This is one of those rare CD's that amazes you from the beginning of track one until the end of the final track. It has happy songs and sad songs. The creativity, talent, vocal harmony, and instrumentation of this band should mean that they will be around a good long time. I thought it was ironic that their dad's name is the same as the vocalist for one of the greatest bands of the 80's: Steve Perry, meaning that that should be a harbinger of good things to come. Looking forward to their next CD already. 'If I Die Young', though I love the song, is hard to listen to, having lost my 20 year old stepdaughter to a car wreck back in May. The sharp knife of a short life, indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Group is Gonna Be One to Watch... December 15, 2010
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
This is a really good debut for their first time out. I admit I was wary of them at first, but then I got to listening to the lyrics of their current single, "When I Die Young," and I was honestly touched. After buying the album, none of them really live up to the amazing lyrical value of that song, but every one on here is enjoyable in its own right. Another big favorite of mine that's featured here is the song, "You Lie." I definitely believe this group is gonna do amazing things with country music in the future; one of the reasons I say this is the lead singer, Kimberley Perry, wrote "When I Die Young" without additional songwriters. That shows a lot of promise, because that song is so strong just by itself. Another reason I say this is because her vocal stylings show a lot of promise. She's kind of got an old school bluegrass soul vibe to her sound, almost like a young Alison Krauss or Trisha Yearwood. Buy this one, especially if you're a fan of country music.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fresh Wind Out of Nashville by Way of Alabama December 18, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Bottom-Line: "The Band Perry" is yet another example of the Nashville hit machine, some are hits, some are misses, but all represent fresh new voices from the heartland.

I am falling in love with the XM Satellite Radio installed my 2008 Cadillac CTS. One of the reason I very seldom listen to commercial radio is well, the commercial part! Far too many advertisements for my taste; I just start enjoying the music and sorry time for a long, long series of commercials! And so the search for music begins.

Not so with XM Satellite Radio. Sure there are occasional announcement, but they have nothing at all to do with pitching stuff I do not need, want, or want to hear about; it's just music and not the same looped play lists now common on the conglomerate commercial broadcast radio stations . It's on XM Satellite Radio that I first heard If I Die Young from a fresh new group out of Nashville, "The Band Perry." I like the track so much that I reserved the CD at the local library and so far I like very much what I am hearing.

"The Band Perry" is Kimberly Perry (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano) and her two brothers: Reid Perry (bass guitar, background vocals) and Neil Perry (mandolin, drums, accordion, background vocals). The trio was signed by Republic Nashville in August 2009. The group's debut and self-titled CD, "The Band Perry", was released in October 2010 and has so far spawned two singles: track No. 2 Hip to My Heart and track No. 3 If I Die Young, the latter of which reached number one on the Hot Country Songs charts and has rightly been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Single.

I don't care for this CD as there is only one good song in the entire collection. I am quite disappointed.
