More About the Author

John R. Maxim was born in Greenwich Village, NYC, educated at NY Jesuit Schools (Xavier and Fordham) played all the street sports and most team sports.
Comes from a family of cops and a few Feds. After school, took up flying, skydiving and dirt-track stock car racing until the Military decided it could do without him. Then went into marketing and advertising. Several awards. Rose to Senior VP at major New York Advertising agencies. Work involved a great deal of international travel. Major hobby back then was sailing.
Always wanted to write, however, and, one night on the bar car, decided to give it a year, succeed or fail. Sold first novel at age 41. Wrote 12 more plus one non-fiction, averaging a year and a half each. Translated into ten languages. Several were optioned for film or TV. Still waiting.
Took up skiing. Many trips to Switzerland and Colorado. With the kids gone, sold our Connecticut house and moved to Hilton Head Island with his beautiful wife, Christine, herself a champion sailor.

I normally don't like spy stories. But all of the Bannerman novels (four in the series about Bannerman, one more that prequels Bannerman and is about Lesko) are the best! The characters are addicting, Maxim makes you want to become a covert-operative and go hang out with the Bannerman gang yourself. Find these books and read them!!

The Group of people in this book are killers and lunatics, by the forth or fifth chapter you are covinced that they are the good guys. It takes a good writer and an exellent plot to pull that off. Maxim bands together a bunch of social misfits in a close nit if sometimes uncomfortable freindship. These people would make great neighbors. Anyone who gave you a hard time would simply vanish. Lots of fun and lots of action.

After reading the "Bannerman Solution" I found this book to be a dissapointment. The first part of the book was a repeat of the previous book the "Bannerman Solution". It was like rereading the first book the "Bannerman Solution". I was also dissapointed that the Ripper Effect was never fully implemented. This could have made this book a better read. This also caused the book to fall short. The usual cast of characters alone saved this book.Thank god we had Billy,Carla,Anton,Lesko,Elena and company to fall back on. I was also dissapointed about the lightweight villains thar were featured in the "Bannerman Effect". Maxim could have done better here also. I am going to read more of the Bannerman books and hope that they get better.

I have just finished "The Bannerman Effect" and wow, it is as good as "The Bannerman Solution". But I have a really strange problem, where are the others? I can't find them anywhere, but they must be out there somewhere, other reviews mention them as having been read. I also see in these two that they were published originally 10 years (+ or -) ago. Is the publisher running "The Ripper Effect" on us? How do I get them? rondoyle@instruction.com

Don't publishing houses have editors anymore? This is no lie: The author spent the first 14 chapters recapping the entire storyline of THE BANNERMAN SOLUTION. I had to skim the first 135 pages to see that I didn't miss anything critical to THIS story. Other authors can handle sequels. Why can't Maxim?
The premise, that the government has developed a software program that can predict what will happen if certain surgical strikes occur among drug distributors and terriorists, and therefore, Bannerman's group of contract assasins could instill panic and confusion amoung various terrorist groups, is quite an interesting idea, but is it ever developed? No.
Finally, everybody in this book speaks with Ivy League/New England diction: all of Bannerman's group (hey, they could have picked it up in Westport...) but also the tough New York cop, all of the Europeans, including the Russians, and even the Jamaican drug dealer. Ridiculous.
Buy The Bannerman Solution, and be sure to skip this one.

I started with the first book in the series (The Bannerman Solution) and have just finished reading the last (The Bannerman Ghosts). John R. Maxim has written a VERY enjoyable and entertaining series. His main characters are fully developed and each book builds on the previous, so much so that you feel you know these people, even though they are retired assassins! Would highly recommend. I'm hoping he will continue the series past "TBGhosts". I hate it when each book ends but especially the last one because I knew there wasn't another one waiting for me.
