5.0 out of 5 stars Let the fantasy become reality! February 28, 2012
By Tamara
Format:Kindle Edition
Whenever I begin reading something by P.R. Mason, I have a problem: I can't put my Kindle down! The Banshee and the Linebacker is no exception. The story involves a love triangle between two high school brothers and a girl who can sees the death of any person she touches.

As usual with Mason, everything - the action, the characters - sucks you in! And, while reading, your new reality seamlessly becomes the fantasy Mason creates.

As a side note, I also enjoy that the setting of the story is the same as found in Mason's other work, including Entanglements and Fated Hearts. Fun!

(This work does contain mature subjects: death, virginity, and verbal abuse.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Enjoyable! March 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I got this book because it was a freebie and I thought the title was interesting. This book was much, much better than I expected. Although it is short, it doesn't seem incomplete or rushed. I only wish it had been longer because I loved the story so much I wanted to know more about the couple's short range future, even though I knew the long range one. I would certainly pay for another book by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars LIttle Book - Big Return March 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
4 Big ol' Stars for this one! I'm always impressed by a writer who can write tight, but Ms. Mason gets extra brownie points for writing tight without rushing the story. Tara, a "banshee" has the gift/curse of being able to see a person's death before it happens... and she has seen a startling vision of her boyfriend's demise as well as his twin brother's involvement. The plot revolves around her race to alter destiny. Both hero and heroine are well developed in the allotted page count, with clear, (and unfaltering,) goal, motivation, and conflict. That alone gets the book 3 of the four stars.
The fourth star is for clever writing. Her descriptions, especially of the hero's dysfunctional family seated around the dinner table, are very nicely done. (Excellent cat litter reference!)
Now, here's why I'm keeping one star in the little dish of stars on my desk. The situation (cheerleader/football hero/struggle over the decision to have sex or not,) just wasn't quite enough to make me pull out the fifth star. Still, I'd love to read another YA heroine by the same author - a heroine with conviction, (one way or the other,) about her own physical boundaries with greater personal barriers to overcome. Totally subjective on my part, but there you have it.
That little bit aside, I can highly recommend this novella and I'll be keeping an eye out for Ms. Mason's next contribution to the world of YA fiction! Nicely done.

I picked this up, and didn't put it down! The characters as always are wonderfully complex, engaging and hook me from the first word! If you love young adult fiction, paranormal fiction, even if you think you don't, I highly recommend giving the story and this author a read! Well worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Book March 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
There were many things I liked about the book, probably starting with the source material (who doesn't love death premonitions?). And the book definitely respects its source by not turning it into what the author needed it to be. The characters were well-rounded and I found myself laughing out loud while reading it (sure I was in study hall and everyone stared at me, but still).

Ms Mason is really honing her craft with yet another great paranormal offering. The story moved along, and the plot was fully developed. Ms Mason's imagery and vocabulary combined to give an engaging tale.

I recommend this and other stories written by Ms. Mason.
