Re-lax and pull up a chair; perhaps you'll leave less square,

Man, like dig it. This interactive presentation is purr-fect for some of us hipster types that want to explain to our kids why we're so weird. In fact, since most of the little ones I know these daze can tell me secrets about my own computer, I think the CD is where it's at. Is the CD an all inclusive in-depth research project? No way, man. But will it get the juices flowing? Ab-so-lute-ly Daddy-O! And that's what it's all about. Some of those L7 types might not understand that. Do I wanna read a book on computer? No way, man, I wanna feel the paper beneath my fingers. But will the excerpts from those classics included on the CD inspire a young mind to read one of those books; maybe read more from that author? Who knows, Big Daddy? But what if they do? Cool, man, cool.

This CD-rom is a total waste of money. It claims to be "more than just an anthology." It claims to be many things it is not. Poetry & prose are not even presented besides a few noisy sound blips. Trying to be akin to a literary version of MTV, it is barely eye candy. Although the exhibition of which it was based, The Whitney Museum of Art's "Beat Culture" had many faults, this CD Rom doesn't even warrant debate; its just plain bad. I feel especially disappointed because of Voyager's (the publisher) fantastic CD Rom of Art Spiegelman's "the Complete Maus." While "Maus" is a fantastic work of art with plenty of cross-referenced materials (akin to the Museum of Modern Art's exhibition of Spiegelman's material), "The Beat Experience" is an utter failure on every level.
