I love this book. When I was growing up in the 70's I bought a copy of it. It was clothbound and had one of the Sgt. Pepper outake photos of the Beatles on the cover. I poured over this book. I had a very large Beatles collection growing up that unfortunatly I lost when I went on my first tour with the United Stated Army in the 80's. I have replaced most of my collection and finally secured my copy of this great book. What is intersting about Beatles books in the 70's was that they were written only a few years after the GREATEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD broke up,so there were always hints of a Beatles reunion. What I loved about this book was the easy reading way it was written and the the great photos. I remember two great shots of John during the Get Back/Let It Be sessions. One shows him sitting with his Ephiphone Casino looking down with sadness. The other is from the roof top of the Apple Building and he is looking over his shoulder and smiling. I also was intrigued by the size of this book, it wsa like an album and you could open it up and pour over it as I did many many times. Anyway as a previous reviewer wrote if you can score a copy of this book, grab it you won't be disappointed.

This is an excellent history of the Beatles' history from their beginning through the Abbey Road LP period. Written in the U. K., it has a chronological rundown of their impact and music, and an excellent review of the English LP's/CD's released during that time frame. This book has been updated to include most of their later re-releases. It does include a listing of thee American releases, as well.

"A splendid time is guaranteed for all."

OK, let me start by saying that the book came to me almost held together by wishing. BUT the rating was GOOD CONDITION which usually means JUST THAT: held together as well as a paperback can be! So, I was NOT disappointed about that!
Nor was I disappointed with the book, which I had owned before and enjoy reading now. It is a COMPLETE Discography of ALL the Beatles singles, EP's, and albums, American as well as English, with comments about each. I never realized how many times Beatles songs were recycled. It might appear on a couple of singles (with different flip sides), EP's (4 songs on "a single") AND albums (Love Me Do appears about 10 times). Capitol (USA) just hacked up the EMI (ENG) original albums, making 12 US Albums from 8 EMI ones, throwing singles onto the album, making an EP into 2 singles then sticking on an album with a name like "The Beatles Second Album" (really creative) or just sticking "movie music" on HELP! instead of the songs on the original album!
[my only complaint about the comments is that the authors seem to HATE Paul McCartney and love John Lennon. Paul's work is constantly panned as over praised, while Lennon is a genius when he farts on one.]
It's great resource to find out who sang it, where, when and why. Certainly worth the reading!

This "record," while full of photos of the Fab Four, is not an objective history of the biggest selling band of all-time. Rather, the "authors" (I use that term loosely) see fit to bury most of the Beatles' solo work (save John Lennon). The only reason I gave this book one star is that negative star ratings are not available.
