Beautiful illustrations throughout, price range included for all steins listed. Well worth the price. If you love steins, you can spend hours reading this book and you will refer to it often if you're a collector.

I loved the layout of the steins throughout the book. I wish there was much more color photos, to display the exemplary color and brillance of these collectibles. I hope there will be an updated catalog (which is a very detailed, several hundred paged, hardcover book) very soon. I admire the craftsmanship that dates back hundreds of years.

Wonderful, informative book. Wish there was a COMPLETTE book on all Mettlach steins made with current values. A great reference book for any stein collector's library :-)

This is a very good book to have as a collector of antique German beer steins. It is well laid-out and has information regarding the manufacturing process as well as some of the history of the ages when these steins were made. For instance...Raw material availability had a great affect on production, often forcing material substitution and/or new production innovation.

Although this is no where near a complete catalog of any one style or manufacturer, this book has a fair and relatively complete representation of what's out in the market and some ball-park values. With the older date of copyright, it's values are loose guidelines, but they work.

There is also a listing of manufacturer marks. Again, It's not a complete list, but it's a good starting point. I would have to say though that the older the stein, the less likely it is to have a manufacturer or artist mark.

German military steins are confusing at best, but the author goes into great detail attempting to explain the process of the military differentiations and nuances of the time component. There are lost of reproductions in this category which aids in confusing most early collectors.

There is a chapter on modern steins as well as reproductions which is helpful in figuring out what modern pieces may or may not hold value.

Overall a very good book to have as a reference source!
