Book Description

Filmmaker Curtis Dupré seems to have everything he could want on the set of his second film: studio backing, a professional crew, and an actress he’s admired for years in the starring role. But people begin to vanish from the set, and from the memories of everybody except Curtis. A strange visitor is eliminating those close to the young director, and there’s no telling who is next. To save his friends, to save himself, Curtis Dupré will have to look into himself and discover what it truly means to be The Beginner.

This is the latest adventure from Blake M. Petit, author of Other People's Heroes and A Long November.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Beginner: A Man's Attempt to Become an Author January 23, 2013
Format:Paperback
To make it short, this is a prime example of some of the worst prose I have ever seen. Every letter, sentence, and paragraph comes together in such an awkward, repugnant way that it actually impresses me--it's as if he tried to write the worst book he could. This book incited so much hate within me that promptly after I read chapter three I burned it, collected the ashes, and drove three hours so I could dump them far away from my home.

This may seem hurtful to Mr. Petit, but The Beginner is just a collection of clumsy words that have plot holes bigger than its author. Nothing really connects, whole paragraphs fail to advance the plot, and the book as a whole is full of mindless rambling about a life the author obviously wants for himself. It is a sad, sad attempt at a logical, progressive story, and I shun this book as a result. This book is the bane of thought, and if I were a sickly person, I have no doubts this book would have actually killed me.

I recommend this book to no man, may God have mercy on Mr. Petit's demented, desperate soul, and may he come to terms with the fact that he will never get anything published unless he self-publishes it.
