Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

What’s left when you lose everything? Kingsbury (Coming Home, 2012) works through that tough question in her newest novel. Charlie Barton and his wife, Donna, ran the Bridge, a historic bookstore in Franklin, Tennessee, for 30 years, but a declining industry and a devastating flood left them with an empty storefront and insurmountable bills. Molly Allen and Ryan Kelly connected in college over their passion for reading, using the Bridge as their getaway from the very different lives they lead. ED: S/B “they led”? Years later, both look back and wonder what could have been. When Charlie gets into a horrible accident, Ryan decides to organize a book drive and gather donations, so Charlie can rebuild the bookstore when he heals. Through the effort, Ryan and Molly reconnect. It’s hard to know what is most important until something forces you to change your perspective. Kingsbury’s characters are confronted with the hard choices readers face daily. The award-winning author brings her trademark empathy for the people she writes for to this tale, and fans will love her dramatic take on real issues. --Carolyn Richard

Review

"Popular inspirational novelist Kingsbury goes mainstream in her newest, which mixes a love story with a seasonal one that borrows from the Christmas favorite It's A Wonderful Life. . . . Kingsbury fans may acquire a new holiday favorite read in this sugary tale of second chances." (Publishers Weekly )

She is a passionate and inspirational woman of God. I am grateful for her faithfulness and obedience to write when God gives her a story. Thank you, Karen, for your faithfulness. Your stories have touched my life more than you could ever know.” (Tami D. )

The Bridge is an incredibly heart-warming collection of love stories—the story of a young couple in love, the story of an older couple who love each other and their fledgling business, and the love of a community coming together for one of its own. I could not put The Bridge down, because I was captivated by the events and anxious to read ‘the rest of the story!’ Inspirational! A beautiful story about second chances!” (Lisa H. )

The Bridge will be a bridge to your heart. It is a heart-warming story of second chances that you will not want to put down until you finish it. 5.0 out of 5 stars On the Way to The Bridge September 18, 2012
By Sheila
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A prequel to THE BRIDGE, releasing on October 23rd, THE BEGINNING is a beautiful short story about what can happen when life's tragedies intersect with hope, dreams, and the unfolding of God's plans. A bookstore becomes a place where lives are changed, friends are made, and healing is experienced. I felt a renewed appreciation for books in general...for the influence they have in our lives, especially when reading these lines, "Books were changing her life. But she didn't consider the idea that they could do so much more. That they might actually heal her." Whether short or long, I can always count on the stories of Karen Kingsbury to cause tears to flow and to find a warm, special place in my heart. THE BEGINNING has only whet my appetite further as I excitedly anticipate the release of THE BRIDGE. I encourage you to let it whet yours too!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Beginning of The Bridge September 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Beginning is a short story pre-quel to Karen's upcoming book The Bridge (releases 10/23/12). No matter how short or long a story, as usual I was sucked right in! I read most of it at the gym. It's kind of hard to walk on the treadmill and read through tears :) Karen truly is a gifted writer! Thank you for anther beautiful story! I can't wait to read The Bridge and finish Charlie's and Donna's stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing! October 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It reminds me of her older stuff, which I love. I loved the Baxters but the last couple years the books about them and Bailey seemed a little rushed and dramatic. I love the direction The Bridge is taking Karen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Karen Never Disappoints.... September 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Beginning is an amazing e-short prequel that gives you a look into the story and the beginning of The Bridge. No matter how long a Karen story is it will always tug at my heart and have me looking for so much more when the book is finally released on October 23. Karen is an amazing author that really knows how to listen to Gods amazing words when he places things on her heart, no matter your age or situation you will close one chapter and just feel so blessed. I loved reading these chapters and really feeling the connection early with the characters. This prequel and book are going to be the most amazing book to be released this time of the year. We are getting into the spirit of holidays coming and everyone getting in the spirit and this will teach all of us what love, friendship, and how great when God tells us something to do he knows the plans and how we can impact lives.

3.0 out of 5 stars A set-up (money maker) for the Bridge October 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I purchased this from Amazon for my Kindle and read it that day. This is basic information to acquaint the reader with the characters for the BOOK and it was good but could have been the first 10 chapters of the BOOK. I believe this was just a way to entice a reader to spend more money.

I read The Beginning and I couldn't put it down, it was once again an amazing read. I've come to look forward to Karens books. I can't wait for the Bridge to come out, I love books, and a cozy bookstore would feel like home to me. And the way they know what is needed to help someone and I'm in awe of Gods power as well as the power of prayer. Believe me when I say, once you start one of Karen Kingsbury's books you won't be able to put it down, and it will be life changing. I love her books!!!

This is such a great introduction to Karen's new novel "The Bridge." I didn't want it to end :) I'm so excited to read "The Bridge" for the Christmas season. Karen Kingsbury has been so blessed as an author, and her words have made me laugh, cry, pray, and draw closer to God by presenting situations in which people come to realize they need God more than anything in their lives. I most definitely reccommend "The Beginning" and any other novel of Karen's. God Bless!!
