This review is from: Best of Coleman Hawkins (Audio CD)
These tracks are culled from albums made with Coleman Hawkins in the early sixties on Prestige's (and prestigous) Moodsville and Swingsville series. Decades of mastery, leading the way for all tenor sax players, of ballads and swinging standards shine through in these seemingly relaxed yet deceptively moving tracks. The piano playing is a big bonus, featuring groups with Ray Bryant, Tommy Flanagan and Red Garland. I own a LOT of Hawkins' CD's, and this is one of my favorites. With over 65 minutes of flawless playing, this is one helluva bargain at $12.

Post Script, Dec '06:
Since this appears to have been a promotional sampler that's no longer available new, I would have to recommend my two favorite CDs sampled, "At Ease with Coleman Hawkins" and/or "Night Hawk".
