Jett Williams on Hank Williams

American music legend Hank Williams has long been considered one of the earliest influences on rock ‘n’ roll and in fact was the first of a very few artists to be inducted in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.  .
Williams’s vocals, steeped in emotion, have influenced generations of rock and Americana artists, and lately ... Read more in Amazon's Hank Williams Sr. Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Short June 1, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I bought this CD after it caught my eye in the record store. I didn't know much about Hank Williams, aside from the fact that he was important to the early days of country music. As a newcomer to Hank Williams, I'm happy with the CD, but surprised that they could only find 33 minutes of material for this "twentieth century master." (the name of the series). IMHO, if an artist is dead or from the way distant past, a greatest hits should include as much material as possible. I'm sure Hank Williams has more than 12 memorable songs.

Buying a 12-song "Best of Hank Williams" c.d. is as pointless as buying one on Frank Sinatra or The Beatles. It's like eating a small bite of a sandwich and being satisfied that you ate the entire sandwich.
Williams was one of the giants of 20th Century popular music and the greatest of all country singers. Even the out-of-print "40 Greatest Hits" double set doesn't do him justice. Go ahead and buy the "Complete Hank Williams." Hank's WORTH it! Besides, prices are firming up on the set, it won't always be available, and you can pass it down to your descendents.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album April 23, 2013
Format:Audio CD
Hank Williams Sr. was one of the greats of country music, and a pioneer of the honky tonk sound. He died tragically at the age of 29. But, in the span of that short singing career he produced many great and memorable songs. This wonderful album contains 12 of his best tunes, including Hey Good Lookin', Move It On Over (the doghouse song), I Saw The Light, and on and on.

This is a great album, with some really, really great tunes. My one complaint is that it didn't have There's A Tear In My Beer, the tune that was later remade to combine Hank's voice with that of his son. But, no doubt it wasn't one of his hits (though it should have been). Anyway, this is a great album, and I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good cd! April 5, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I grew up listening to many songs by Hank Williams. Also, if he was ever a guest on the Grand Ole Oprey, I had my
ear glued to the speaker on my first transiter radio! --- GUess I am dating myself, but I was hooked on Country music.
