Once upon a time, Country Music actually had songwriters that could sing as well as they could write; and Tom T. Hall was at the top of that list. This offering by "20th Century Masters" is superb and one of the most complete collections I've heard. From the rowdy "I like Beer" to the contemplative "Watermelon Wine" this album will bring back many memories. Of course, there are the comical (if nor hilarious) numbers: "Ballad of Forty Dollars" and "A Week in a County Jail". All in all, a very good compilation.

Ah Tommy boy. They don't make them like you any more. Such simple tunes at times, but so thought provoking as well. The songs are not all cluttered up with electronics and bass lines and you can actually understand the words he sings. A different time in country music, yes, but still worth listening to. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who was even mildly interested in Tom T. Hall.

I like every single one of the songs in this collection, and that is rare. This is old now, but it's still terrific.

Tom T. Hall has been one of my favorite c/w singers, since seeing him in person in St. Louis. I once had this record, and as soon as I saw that it was available in cd, I grabbed it.

Tom T. Hall is best known for writing soft, slow, thoughtful songs such as "The Year That Clayton Delaney Died," "I Care," "Old Dogs, Children, and Watermelon Wine," and "I Love" are enough tunes to establish a career. Add in songs that are more rockers such as "Ravishing Ruby," "I Like Beer," "That Song Is Driving Me Crazy," and my favourite Tom T. Hall song, "Faster Horses (The Poet and the Philosopher.)"
Tom T. Hall was a classic singer and songwriter, and this album goes a long way to demonstrate this. It's missing "Sneaky Snake," but otherwise this one-disc package truly offers us "The Best of Tom T. Hall."
