Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This re-issue is a compilation of 18 songs from Roy Rogers' favorite releases of the 1990's from Capitol Nashville/Liberty Records years. 'Slide of Hand' and 'Slide Zone' have been off the market for many years. They feature very special guests including Allen Toussaint, Bela Fleck and Charlie Musselwhite. These are contemporary Americana / blues recordings with strong songwriting and dynamic arrangements. Roy Rogers & The Delta Rhythm Kings have toured worldwide since 1982 and have performed at some of most prestigious festivals in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sliding Down the Blues September 5, 2009
Format:Audio CD
In 1993 and 1994, Roy Rogers, Bay Area specialist of the slide guitar blues, issued two fine albums, most of those tracks united here on one CD. On the first album, he teamed with frequent guest musicians Norton Buffalo, harmonica, and Allen Toussaint, piano, and on the second, he had the support of Charlie Musselwhite, harmonica, and Bela Fleck, banjo. Besides Rogers' fine guitar work, he has a unique and wonderful singing voice. The strong rhythm of "Don't Say A Word," the funk of "Cure For An Achin' Heart," the honky tonk of "Rockin' at The Hey Hey," the popular balladic "House of Blue Dreams" and "Lover's Moon," the more traditional rural blues of "Livin' On Borrowed Time" and "Ode to the Delta" (especially with Fleck's banjo for atmosphere), and the quiet reflective "Slide Zone" are fun listening and examples of the wide variety of contempory urban and country blues styles found on this happy compilation.

4.0 out of 5 stars SLIDE GUITAR MASTER August 11, 2014
Format:Audio CD
I was pleased to see this particular cd announced on Amazon because I could no longer get Slide Zone. Although I already had Slide Of Hand, I still purchased this cd so I could have Slide Zone. My problem is that all the selections that were on the individual cds are not necessarily on this one. For example, there are only 9 selections from Slide Of Hand whereas the individual cd has 12. I guess the same holds true for Slide Zone. I imagine that the reason that this cd is titled "The best of 2" is that not all selections are present. It would have been nice to have all the selections from both cds. This aside, the cd is great sounding and the music is, as usual from Roy Rogers, just great. When you hear how Roy plays the slide guitar it is pure heaven.
