"I love this series, HAVOC the second book in this series and it is better than the first. All the characters that we love from the first book return in the sequel. This book has everything that a good religious thriller should:
Ancient Biblical Mysteries and Prophecies:
Secret Religious Fanatic Groups that will go to any length to keep their secrets,
Scientist and archeologists
Special Forces and lots of fighting,
Danger and thrills in many different locations."
Eclectic Bookworm

30 Pieces of SIlver
The 30 Pieces/Havoc bridge short story: Targeted

More praise for The Betrayed series...
"I usually skip short stories but I loved "30 Pieces of Silver" so much that I knew Ambush would be worth reading. I was right! It is a fantastic introduction to Brandt and his crew leading the reading straight into "30 Pieces of Silver". I am so in love with Carolyn McCray's writing. Move over Dan Brown, there is a new sheriff on town!"
Amazon Reviewer

For anyone who can't get enough of James Rollins, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and Brad Thor... The Missions is your next thrill fix!!!

**If you haven't read the first book in the Betrayed series, look for 30 Pieces of Silver but be forewarned it is EXTREMELY controversial.

**If you enjoy hard-pounding action you'll want to check out Carolyn's newest techno-thriller, Encrypted.

**If you were looking for near future action/adventure roller coaster, try Carolyn's MoonRush.

**If you were looking for Carolyn's #1 historical thriller set in ancient Rome, it is Fated. Beware though, there is a thread of paranormal romance that sneaks up on you like an asp in the night...

**If you were looking for Carolyn's #1 Hard Boiled/Police Procedural mystery, it is Plain Jane: A Patterson-style thriller with a dash of Hannibal

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rollickingly Great Read! January 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Oh yeah, these black ops non-coms are charmed to the max, but hey, that makes it all the more fun. These resourceful characters slide, roll, fall, rocket or get dragged by their fingernails from cliffhanger to cliffhanger but their wit, humor and audacity make credibility a non-issue. The synergy of talents and personality make it all work...somehow. The Betrayed Series is strictly for those seeking an armchair adventure where you can root for the underdogs and bust a gut laughing. Brava!

I really enjoyed this series. It is well written, good plots, great characters, lots of action and nice sense of humor. Character development was well crafted from book to book. Still looking forward to reading Shiva.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable if unbelievable read, but . . . April 7, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This author seriously needs to have an editor take a whack at the grammar in this book. While I enjoyed the story and characters, and found it a real page turner, the story seemed to be one long explosion. There was little in the way of build up to the excitement. It was running at top speed from page one. Not necessarily a bad thing. It did keep me turning the page despite the impossible feats the characters perform. Eventually I spent more time saying, "Seriously?" than enjoying the story. What is it they say about suspending disbelief? Yeah, kind of lost this fairly early in the story.

That being said, I did enjoy the story and kept reading to the very end.

The biggest complaint I have with the books is the fact that not a page went by that I did not have to stop reading and mentally edit the sentence structure in order for the story to make sense to me. There were occasional spelling errors, though they were few and far between. But having a character with a doctorate say, "All's we have to do is . . ." is not only distracting, but laughable. "All's?" Seriously? And having all the characters use that colloquialism (and others) shows some difficulty in maintaining characters' distinct personalities, education and life experience through their dialogue. Sometimes any character can be visualized as saying any portion of the conversations. Lastly, I understand the concept of keeping sentences short to move the story along faster, but they at least need to be sentences for the most part. The occasional phrase standing alone can be a great narrative tool, but having complete sentences chopped up into short phrases is distracting and irritating to the reader. At least it was to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have collection for the Betrrayed Series January 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In order to have the complete flow of the action of the Betrayed Series, one must own The MISSIONS. They are the pre- and post- sequels to 30 PIECES, HAVOC AND SHIVA. See my review of SHIVA for the correct sequence to read the Betrayed Series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action-packed to the last sentence... March 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This collection was my introduction to McCray. It has everything a book should have: action, suspense, and a little romance. McCray's method of writing is daring yet she pulls it off beautifully.

Wow. There is not one page without action and humor. I just loved Lopez. I couldn't put this book down. I read the whole series in about the same time it takes me to read one book. I will definitely be getting more of this author

1.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to read seriously March 14, 2014
By Arby
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The writing style of the author is decent, which is why I gave this a two star rating, but I can't take the writing seriously. There are so many unbelievable and unrealistic descriptions of what is happening, it is clear the author is mixing fantasy with reality here.

As a couple of examples, she (the author) describes the bad guys using percussive grenades, but she also includes a large heat blast from these that starts several trees on fire--she added incendiary features to percussive, but okay whatever. She describes a jeep revving an engine and then flying up and over the top of a Mayan step pyramid, and then they all drive off in the jeep, escaping the bad guys. Seriously? The jeep isn't going to get to the top, much less fly over the top, and far much less able to still drive away afterwards. It was extremely painful reading a section about them scaling an 8 foot wall. They could probably nearly reach the top with their hands while just standing on the ground, but she describes this long drawn out, difficult process for these men to scale the wall. After a lot of effort and work, one had made it up four feet and had four feet still to go, and took forever to do it. How?!? Another one was having difficulty climbing, so another guy, after having climbed up a ways moved over directly beneath the struggling one to help him climb higher. WHAT? She wrote as if they were scaling a 50 foot wall rather than an 8 foot wall. So much of what is described skews so far from reality that it is very difficult to read and/or take seriously. Maybe this writing should be in the humor category. As to the controversial stuff other reviewers have mentioned, I haven't gotten that far into the series and I don't think I will--I'm off to read something else now.

More About the Author

Carolyn has had a long and extremely interesting road to become a bestseller.

When she head to veterinary school those many years ago she had no idea decades later she would be writing controversial historical thrillers, gut wrenching mysteries and roller coaster-style action/adventure tales!

Born in San Francisco and raised in the beautiful Napa Valley, Carolyn always had an overactive imagination. As a child you could usually find her dragging the neighborhood children out to the haunted barn to make her Nancy Drew-style audio tapes. Oh and did she mention, there was an entire life-sized recreation of the nativity scene in the rafters? Yeah, that wasn't just a little creepy.

Which of course was great practice for writing such blockbusters as Plain Jane: A Patterson-style thriller with a dash of Hannibal and 30 Pieces of Silver: An Extremely Controversial Historical Thriller.

Carolyn is honored to have a seven book contract with Amazon's mystery and thriller imprint, Thomas & Mercer along with being one of the eight books during the inaugural launch of Amazon's new Serial program (9th Circle).

With over 250,000 books sold, Carolyn now lives on a beautiful lake in the Pacific Northwest where the fog rolls in over the water, snuffing out all signs of life around her. Yep, she still loves the creepy!

What is this book about?
Well I only read the first one...30 Pieces of silver. Basically in a nutshell its the search for the bones of Jesus Christ. It gets a little crazy along the way with fast cars and RPG's and exploding everything but its a fun read. If your religiously sensitive I would avoid it.
