One quote really sticks out in this book which explains for me why I love it."...a point of departure for the reflection on our relationship with God who longs to take us into the desert and speak to our heart of his love."
Wouldn't you love some time to really dwell on that?? Each chapter draws you into pondering LOVE. Our relationships. With not only spouses, but with kids, our parents, our siblings, our friends, our in-laws, our co-workers...It's what life is all about. I am always looking for a way to go further and know Jesus better, not just know ABOUT him but KNOW HIM> This books is very helpful. It also would be a great gift for newly engaged, married, or anyone actually.

I have really enjoyed this book and have learned quite a bit about different characters in the bible. Wright does an excellent job of providing plenty of factual information, but infuses it with enough commentary to make it more than just an historical account. Would be a great resource for couples preparing for marriage as it really explores different types of love and how they play out in every day life. Definitely worth the time and money to purchase this book!

This book should be in everyones home. If you are frustrated and disappointed in the daily stories about our hollywood actors and actresses having affairs and getting divorced, this book is for you. Highly readable and a great follow-up to Allan Wrights two other books.

When one mentions love stories, I'd be willing to bet that the first thing that comes to mind is not the Bible. One tends to think of romantic movies or novels. Perhaps one might think of couples one knows whose love stands out in the crowd. Yet, God is the author of love and the Bible, as the word of God, is a wonderful place to look for examples of love and role models for our own relationships. In "The Bible's Best Love Stories," Allan F. Wright examines some of the very human love stories contained in the pages of scripture. These stories do not show an idealistic portrayal of love. Rather they show the full range of deep emotions and all the challenges along the way. Wright does not only study the portrayal of romantic relationships, but also the love of good friends and familial relationships.

Wright begins his examination, as one might expect, with the relationship between Adam and Eve, "the world's first lovers." Before the first sin, they had the beauty of the ideal relationship; it was a union of the whole person - body and soul. They loved each other as God loved them. But then, they thought they knew better than God and sin came into the world. Their relationship, which had been so perfect, now was one of shame and blame. Things would never be the same for them, or us, again. We will come up short, yet we are all called to still strive for that original self-giving love that existed before sin.

Wright then turns his attention to other famous pairs of the Old Testament: Abraham and Sarah, Jacob and Rachel, Abigail and David, Tobiah and Sarah, and the unnamed lovers in the "Song of Solomon." He also explores the familial love of Joseph and his brothers and Ruth and Naomi and the bonds of friendship that existed between David and Jonathan.

More About the Author

Allan F. Wright-Husband, Father, Author, National Speaker and Academic Dean of Evangelization for the Diocese of Paterson, NJ. Author of five books on scripture, Allan is a gifted and humorous speaker who delivers the Gospel message with passion and joy. www.allanwright.org, www.insidethewalls.org, allan@allanwright.org
"With an engaging style, Allan Wright makes the events and people of the New Testament come alive for his readers. As we face the urgent need to proclaim Christ not simply to those outside the Church, but even to those within the Church, the Word of God has the power both to enkindle faith and to stir into flame its smoldering cinders. Returning to the biblical witness to the faith of the Church, the author shows how the person of Christ and his gospel can become an exciting adventure for those who seek the truth. With keen insight, he draws us into the new evangelization, not as a program, but as the very mission of the Church in our day."

Most Reverend Arthur J. Serratelli, S.T.D., S.S.L., D.D Bishop of Paterson, NJ

"Jesus the Evangelist: A Gospel Guide to the New Evangelization invites Catholics to read the Gospels through the lens of the New Evangelization and rediscover the tradition of Catholic evangelization. Readers will learn the Catholic character of evangelization and how to be evangelizers at home, in the parish and in the world. Allan F. Wright has provided a valuable tool for parish evangelization teams, hospitality ministries and adult formation groups interested in actively participating in the Church's mission to call all people to an encounter with the Living Christ."
His Eminence Caridinal Donald Wuerl,
Archbishop of Washington, D.C.

"When Catholics hear the call to a New Evangelization, they often wonder how to go about it. Allan F. Wright shows us how, in very clear and biblical terms, drawing from the original and inspired Evangelizers: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Readable and practical, this is a book that will really empower Catholic lay people and Catholic parishes to move, as Allan puts it, from maintenance mode to mission. I recommended this book for both personal and group study, especially in this Year of Faith."
