"THE BIG BOOK OF FLIP CHARTS: A Comprehensive Guide for Presenters, Trainers, and Team Facilitators. By ROBERT WILLIAM LUCAS.

"If you use flip charts, this is the new reference of choice. Lucas covers everything from design and drawing to presentation skills and flip chart-based activities. Plus, it's $5 cheaper than the only other book available on the subject." (Training Magazine, November 1999 (Lakewood Publications)) -- Training Magazine, November 1999

From the Back Cover

Make all your presentations come alive through the masterful use of flip charts! Despite all the razzle-dazzle technology around, there’s still no more lively, informative, and audience-friendly way to make an impact than with flip charts. But using flip charts well is a skill that must be developed. In this comprehensive handbook, professional trainer and communications expert Robert Lucas explains the basic design principles and techniques that professionals use to make impressive flip charts—the simple "tricks of the trade" that make an impact all the way to the back of the room. In addition to tips on drawing and displaying great-looking flip charts, Lucas explains how flip charts can make you a better facilitator. Over two dozen creative flip-chart-based group activities are included to help you lead a brainstorming, teambuilding, or problem-solving session. Each activity uses flip charts to draw out the best ideas and creative thinking from your group. For presenters who want to jazz up their "text only" flip charts, but don’t know how to draw, dozens of ready-to-copy flip chart graphics, icons, and templates make it easy to create something special with minimal effort. You’ll learn how to use lettering in an attractive and impactful way; understand spacing, use color and creative fonts. The Big Book of Flip Charts is the ultimate reference guide for flipcharts, covering not just writing and displaying techniques but layout and graphics, as well as flip chart facilitation activities.

'The Big Book of Flip Charts' is absolutely a great resource for preparing interest catching, energizing flip charts. I have been a trainer for 10 years and I can't wait to try some of the ideas. I especially like the information on group facilitation which will enhance the following modules we are delivering: Supervisory Skills, Teambuilding, Participative Decision Making, and Visioning.

Don't even consider any other flip chart book, they don't come close. This one has it all.. designing flip charts, arranging them, writing them, making them visually interesting. Tons of useful and helpful information.
This book, together with Picture's Worth 1,000 Words: A Workbook for Visual Communications by Jean Westcott and Jennifer Hammond Landau are all you need to become an effective visual communicator, even if you can't draw anything! If you think you're just not good with flip charts, buy these two and prepare to amaze yourself with the transformation!

Perhaps I didn't get this correctly but this book didn't really live up to my expectations.

I did learn some stuff from it and have used some of it since, but I actually expected a little more from it.

Possibly I was expecting a little too much. If you are after something that will tell you some of the basics of working with flip charts, designs of flip charts and a little bit about the type of hardware then this is a good one.

If you are after something that will help you to create dynamic sessions, push the limits of visual aids, and drive people into more thoughtful training sessions then this book is only partly useful.

As an instructor I look for many products that will assist myself and participants of my train-the-trainer workshops. Although I've purchased and used other flip chart reference information, I found the BIG BOOK of FLIP CHARTS to me informative, well illustrated and to the point. I puchased 5 copies and would recommend it to anyone in the training field that uses flip charts. The cover was also very colorful and gave great insight on what was inside.

If you're still relying on flip charts as your main presentation medium, then this is a very important book. For Powerpoint users, there's still good info in terms of how to make best use of the space available in order to transmit information. Neat thing about flip charts is that a skilled facilitator can use them in lots more interactive ways for smaller meetings than powerpoint slides tend to be, even with all that animation.
