This book is a fantastic resource for someone new to toys or someone that wants to add to their toy collection and isn't sure what they want next. It will pay for itself by helping you avoid purchases that aren't quite what you thought they would be or are wildly over priced. It contains lots of ideas on how to best employ your new toys and get the most out of them.

This is an awesome book! It gave me lots of ideas about all sorts of different products - I have to buy online as I'm not near a store with this sort of items, so it was very useful!

I'm a big fan of Tristan Taormino's writing; she has a smart, approachable way of tackling the subject of sex that makes her books easy to read, relate to, and learn from - not to mention entertaining! Her Big Book of Sex Toys is no exception - not only does she discuss the amazing array of sex toys available, she makes recommendations based on her own encyclopedic knowledge of the toys (as well as the manufacturers and materials used), and she even gives in depth helpful hints on how to use them! This is far more than just a book about sex toys - it's a guide to understanding the variety of stimulation you can get from them, as well as a "how to" on getting the most enjoyment possible out of them, whether for yourself or with a partner. Add in the amazing price for a full color hardcover coffee-table quality book, and you've got a sure winner.

This book is a basic, plain vanilla guide to the more mainstream sex toys - mostly vibrators. It is done like a nice coffee table book, hard bound (no pun intended), with large photos on slick paper.

The author covers vibrators and dildos quite well, along with lubrication and other basic toy topics, including basic anatomy and toy hygiene. If you are new to sex toys, this would not be a bad introduction. You won't find any really wild and on the edge sexual toys or practices here, but the information that is here is solid and useful.

There is a small section on bondage and an even smaller section on BDSM toys which essentially only discusses basic floggers or riding crop type toys. Nothing more exotic is examined, which is probably to keep from scaring the newbie or those whose tastes do not run to such things.

I struggled with giving this book only 3 stars, but the fact that Betty Dodson's work is mentioned, along with a great listing of solid resources for further exploration, made me push it up to 4 stars.

Not an encyclopedia of sexual toys, but a good solid introduction to safe toy play. Recommended for those just starting out.

First of all, know what you are ordering when you buy this book. I mistakenly thought I was ordering a "Big BOX of Sex Toys"; after re-checking my order, I reluctantly had to admit to myself the error was mine. At least it gave Delores & me some ideas for Christmas "stocking stuffers." Some of the "toys" should come with warnings--Delores cracked three molars before she realized she was not using "The Duke" properly. However, it is a stimulating read.

I think this book is very informative and has very good pictures which are tastefully done. I just flipped through it but knowing that I can use it as a resource guide in making my toy purchases gives my more confidence that i will pick the one that's right for me.
